Top Amazon Reviews

  • 2 quick positive updates......First look out of box. Long post.
Style: MM6 MIL Reticle
I thought I'd be the first reviewer of this optic. Someone beat me to it, rating it a '5', but no comments. So having said this, these are my first observations, during the unbox process. I currently have 8 precision 22lr rifles, from 2 CZ 457 varmint rifles, (one an MTR.). These rifles wear 2 DNTs, a few Arken EP5s (gen l and ll) and the rest Discover PRS 5-25X56 Gen lls. I have a LOT of centerfire rifles from a Barrett M107A (50 BMG) with a high end Leupold to some basic 10-22s. I'm only stating this to let you know I've looked at a LOT of scopes in the last 60 years. I don't compete. don't hunt, and have 2 private ranges. I also reload 40 different cartridges. I've read a LOT of scope reviews and have always heard good things about Mostrum's value. I've got a lot of vortex Viper older scopes, and they have always performed perfectly. However, I'm pretty tight with my $, so I always look for less expensive optics, since I could never equip all my rifles with Alpha class glass. Yes, these scopes are made in China. However, the manufacturing improvements I have seen in the last decade are amazing. This was observed with the Discovery brand which I've been using for 20 years, without a single issue. Each Discovery model I've purchased has been quietly 'upgraded' with better glass, turrets, etc. I've bought 90% of theme here on Amazon. My favorite brands at this moment are: #1 DNT 7-35X56 #2 The Discovery 5-25X56 PRS Gen ll #3 the Arken 5-25X56 and 7-35X56 These scopes are4 VERY close to each other, to the point they all seem to come from the same OEM. But let's talk about my new Mostrum 5-30X56....... Positives::: Package: plenty sturdy enough. No damage and over packed. Fit/finish: Awesome. The finish is 'slightly' less smooth than the scopes listed above. This is a GOOD thing; I like it better. Accessories: It came with all the usual stuff. The rings maybe too high for my taste, but I have a large inventory of 30mm 'low' rings which fit all my bull bbl rifles perfectly. It comes with 'bikini' covers which fit perfectly, but I've already ordered 'flip up' caps. Just my preference. No sunshade. This is too bad, because they do not offer one even as an accessory. I have several spare Discovery 56mm sunshades and was hoping they would fit. Nope, close but different threads. Turrets: these don't have the audible and tactile feedback of either the DNTs, Arkens, and Discoveries. Those brands have spoiled me for life. Glass: Looking as some objects in my yard today, the glass was awesome. Although described as 'ED", there can be a LOT of levels of glass and coatings. I was VERY impressed. Weight. These are heavy scopes. That makes NO difference to me shooting off of a bench. Value: This line of scopes appear to be the best bang for the $, I've come across, yet. Yes, I have a bunch of CV Life, Orcair, etc, but this Monstum seem almost too good to be true. Negatives: The turrets could be better. No sunshade. The rings may or not be ok, I'll see when I mount it to a rifle that has old glass. Not crazy about the names 'Beast' and 'Monstrum'. Not any worse than the word 'Orcair' on those models of which I have several and have been very happy with that 5-25X56 model. Same $ range. Looking at both the Amazon listings and the Monstrum site, reveals a dizzying number of models! If you can't find something that fits your needs, good luck. Today, I also received another "Beast". It's a 5-25X56 and is a mirror twin to the 5-30 model. Can't wait to view them side-by-side3 at the range. VERY happy so far! Updates... Work/weather has prevented me from a 'range' review, but I wanted to mention a couple of positive things for those about to make a purchase: - although Monstrum offers 'flip up' caps here, I wasn't too sure about the sizes. So, I went with my 'standard' for covers. Butler Creek. Amazon has the #27 for the eyepiece (even though it's listed as for the obj), and # 51 for the obj lens. These fit perfectly. - I forgot to mention the small, ( but sufficient) manual is one of the ONLY manuals I have recently seen that describes the TRUE method to do the parallax adjustment There is a LOT of misinformation 'out there' on how to correctly use this feature: - forget the numbers. They are just an estimate - everyone's eyes are different - you MUST first adjust the Diopter eyepiece (blank wall, clear sky) to get the crosshairs to focus on max power - use the 'head bob' method while turning the parallax knob. - when the target STOPS moving, your parallax is correct. If you doubt me, go to Sniper's Hide or YouTube videos from guys like Josh at "Pursuit of Accuracy" to see how simple and fast this can be. There are a LOT of high-end scopes that have now removed all numbers from their parallax knobs. Why? They are tired of people returning multiple examples of the same scope because the "numbers don't match the yardage". Operator error!!! I've seen too many YouTube videos from guys who have no clue what Diopter focus is about. ... show more

  • Great scope for the price
Style: MM6 MIL Reticle
Easy to set up. Clear glass. Haven't had a chance to get it out to the range yet due to the weather but seems sturdy.
