Description

Universal Century 0079. Federation commander, Shiro Amada has now assumed control of his unit, the 08th MS Team. Their first missions have not been easy, and they don't look to be getting any easier. On their third mission, the 08th MS team encounters a new enemy Mobile Armor, the experimental Apsalus. After engaging it in battle, they return to base. Meanwhile, the Apsalus has been forced to land to make emergency repairs. And the Zeon have taken over the local village. A village where some of the 08th MS Team are heading for some R&R. Now, they lie in wait in the desert for the enemy Mobile Armor to make another appearance. It's a long wait, and with one of their team injured, it's going to be a rough road.

  • Real war drama, unlike Gundam Wing
I don't usually write reviews of the anime I watch, but I believe this series deserves one. After watching the series, let me say that this blows Gundam Wing out of the water. It is a real drama about front-line troops that have to use Gundams in platoons to achieve victory. The Gundams aren't invincible either; they can't just run into battle and decimate the enemy as the pilots did in GW. This disk introduces the characters and gives us a sneak peek of the coming action with a few jungle conflicts. If you are looking for a gritty war story with realistic characters, this is it. If you are looking for practically invincible robots fighting entire armies, then Gundam Wing might be more for you. All in all, a great series worth viewing. Deserving of five stars. ... show more

  • A more down to earth realisic Gundam series..
Well, like others, I was first exposed to GUndam by Gundam Wing eventhough I had heard of the series years before. GW looks nice but it wasn't realistic as far as I was concerned with their "disturbed" pilots and muich too strong Gundams. Gundam the 8th MS team evens out the vulnerabilities and strengths between Gundams and Zakus making the battles much more believable. It also allows you to care for the characters more seeing as they are more vulnerable in their Gundams. Animation-wise the transfer is clear and crisp. But like another poster said, the main menu screen is sparse. There's only four icons representing play movie, chapter select, sound, and extras. Kids might get those confused. Despite that, I'd definitely buy this series as its starting out to be a more believable and interesting Gundam story. ... show more

  • Everyone will make it back alive!!
Another entry from the expansive Gundam Universe. 08th MS Team is yet another excellent twelve episode story line that draws on many of the themes expressed in the Gundam Universe but always keeps them seeming fresh and invigorating. I was once told that by and English professor in college ( or at least the university that passed for a college that I went to) that " Plot is irrelevant. It doesn't matter what you write about.". On the contrary!! Plot is everything. And 08th MS Team proves that with the right story everything falls into place. Ensign Shiro Amada is the commander of the 08th Mobile Suit Team in the One Year war. Face with combat on the front lines Shiro is forced to make difficult choices when the choices aren't always as clear as black and white. This DVD is a little short on the extras. You have a credit free opening and closing sequences. That's really about it. The picture and the sound however, are crisp and clear as a bell. Bandai made sure they had done a good job on the transfer and it shows. For those who are partial to subtitles they are offered in English. But Bandai's stable of voice actors are among the better crop. The English dialogue doesn't sound strained or labored. Most "purists" will only watch subtitled anime. But on 08th MS Team the English dub excellent. This is one of those anime series that you can proudly display in you DVD collection. And one that could possibly convert the non-anime fans who don't think that animation can be a medium for serious story telling. Strip away the giant robots, space ships and fantastic weapons and at its core you have a story about REAL human beings. That's what it's about. and that's why it works. ... show more

  • Quite possibly the best Gundam ever
This series is quite possibly the best Gundam ever. It has good music, well-exectuted action sequences, and an instanly likeable story. The seeds of love between Shiro and Aina are planted firmly in episode 1, though you don't get to see them take root and grow on this volume. The only problem I encountered were a few lapses in the dub acting, but that just makes the characters seem more human. This DVD is well worth the money! ... show more

  • War for Two
Shiro, the leader of the 08th MS Team, meets the girl of his dreams. Unluckly, the babe is a member of the Zenon, and Shiro is a member of the Federation....those two groups are at war. The two meet in space after they have a mobile suit battle, and the two soon become friends. Shiro leads the 08th MS Team into many battles in the jungle. You hardly see any of the Zenon's. I first saw this on Cartoon Network, and I like the DVD much better. ... show more

  • $189 - $205 is a joke
I love this anime and that is why it hurts to see this sort of abuse on the market. The other dics sold on Amazon are like under $10 for the other volumes...and there seems to be an auction war on this one. Why? I know! Because someone is making a joke and thinking they are going to sell this to a gullible buyer. The sad truth is someone is going to buy it regardless...because they don't know any better. Again, I love this anime but this is ridiculous, this is like the price that some sellers put up for the entire collection elsewhere. ... show more

Getting the other volumes, looking forward to finishing the set. Decent story line and good action that takes the Gundam series to another plane.
