I purchased this duvet because the colors evoke a feeling of fall in me, and I’m a devotee of nihonga and other Japanese art aesthetics. Regarding the quality, it’s a mixed bag. Stitching is uneven in some spots and perfect in others. I appreciate the multiple ties inside the duvet, guaranteeing my blanket will not shift and get lumpy inside the duvet. The duvet has a zippered closure, which I love! Again, the stitching is sloppy at the zipper, but it is still quite sturdy and is hidden. The print is vibrant. But there is no consistency. Pillow covers have black-eyes birds, and the duvet has white-eyed birds. And those white-eyed birds? They’ve seen some things. Some very unpleasant things. All the aforementioned nitpicks about seams and whatnot have not diminished my love of this set. Those wild-eyed birds are my favorite detail, much to my own surprise. The white-eyed birds lend an air of Japanese scroll art to the design. Those birds are just as much at home in my bedroom as they would be in an ancient Japanese ghost scroll. I wasn’t looking to decorate my room in the fashion of a yurei-zu scroll, but that’s what I ended up with and I’m not even a tiny bit mad about it. I imagine that if the ghost of Oiwa had birds as her companions, they would look exactly like the ones on my duvet. ... show more

Very vibrant and soft. One weird issue is that both king sized pillow cases provided are meant for the right side of the bed. The pattern and positioning of the decorative buttons makes it obvious that both cases are meant to be placed on the right side of the bed and it looks a bit odd on any bed larger then a twin where the pillows are typically meant to go side by side. ... show more

This set feels and looks a little Neiman Marcus with a hint of Regular Show and a touch of vintage Mid Century Hollywood Glam. The gold is rich with a very slightly green hue to it without looking brassy and isn’t that gross loud yellow gold we have all seen. I’m not usually a fan of duvet covers but I’m stoked I broke my own rule. Rules are for fools; especially in this case! This bedding set is unique and very pretty. It feels very nice to sleep with too. Quality fabric though mine wasn’t as shiny looking as some of the reviews showed. It’s still satiny and soft. I actually was sold on this after reading the review about the birds looking as though “they had seen things”. My partner and I couldn’t stop laughing at the birds. We thought it would be great to have a nice bedding set with a hidden funny side. Alas our dreams were crushed when we received birds with normal eyes. Although the extra pillowcases I bought had one crazy eyed bird that made up for it. Pillowcases that came with the set were sewn wrong as other reviews have stated. You don’t see it under other pillows though. Would buy this set again. ... show more

I took a chance and decided to buy this duvet and pillowcase set. Was trying to find something that would go well with my really bright bed frame. I was so happy when I opened the package. Much higher quality than I expected. The duvet is well made and the fabric is great. Solid purchase!

I saw this duvet cover on a TV show, grabbed my laptop and began Googling to find it. I found it here and on two other sites. The other sites charged well over twice what I paid on Amazon. The rub, on the other sites, the reverse side had a pattern versus solid color, and one pillowcase had a design on the far left and the other, the far right, making them more symmetrical for bedscaping (yep, that is actually a thing!). I was torn between the two and then realized, I never use the reverse side of any of my duvet sets and would anyone actually notice the non-symmetrical pillows when I have throw pillows on my bed? Also, I have dogs. So do I want to pay over twice what I'm paying here for the same design??? Nope. When you first open the bag it comes in, the fabric feels and looks "silky" (poly blend?). Concerned about the fabric, I began looking for a sewn in tag (which is usually on most duvet covers) and couldn't find one (to see the fabric type/washing instructions). It did however have a card with washing instructions, etc. I tossed it in the washer and dried it on the Wrinkle Free setting. I immediately put it on my bed with a furry throw and pillows. LOVE IT! After washing, it loses that initial silky feeling and sheen, but it's soft enough ( I use a flat sheet, so that doesn't matter to me). I wanted something colorful for Spring/Summer and this Chinoiserie design is perfect! I usually stay with calming, softer colors, so I was surprised that I gravitated so much to this design and I'm so glad I did! It's just the pop of color I was looking for! The ONLY complaint I have about this set are the pillow shams (which is why I didn't give it 5-stars). They share the same pattern with a large bird on the Left and both close on the Right. The bird is placed on the far left on each pillow versus one on the Left and one on the Right (they did it right with the costly set) and the button closures should be on opposing side. This detail was not overlooked in the costly set, but add some throw pillows and no one will be the wiser. As for those who complained about the 'cartoon eyes' in the pattern or feeling 'watched', if I were younger, I would not have likely gravitated to the color or design. But as I've gotten older, I appreciate Chinoiserie design. The eyes are not cartoonish but match the style of design. So before you buy, enlarge the bird faces and get a good look. Details: The pillowcases have buttons to secure them and the duvet has a hidden zipper. The color is not gold or dijon yellow but more of a darker citronella (the color, not the plant color) or Karmann Ghia Puce. ... show more
