I got this tool because my dad is very into do-it-yourself projects around the house, as well as arts and crafts. It's difficult to make such small and precise cuts with the normal saw, so this tool is perfect for that. It's relatively easy to use and seemed pretty high quality.     • Can't cut anything more than little balsa strips. Not even popsicle sticks or tongue depressors.

Wow. I got this for free and I feel like I overpaid. There are decent miter box and saw sets in this price range. This one tried to emulate some of the features of higher priced sets, while cutting enough corners to actually increase the profit margin. The handle of the saw feels alright. It attaches securely enough to the blades. The included blades feel nice. They are decent steel with good flexibility and a narrow kerf that would help the miter box live longer. There are plenty of teeth on the saw (high TPI improves cuts on thin or small pieces). The teeth are even and sharp except, wait... this can't be right. Each triangular toot is sharp along the top edge of the triangle, completely perpendicular to the direction of movement. Each tooth will remove a tiny, tiny amount of material on each pass. This blade does not cut fast. This blade can not push hard or cut deep. This blade cannot cut cleanly. In fact, it can't cut most things at all. In one frustrating moment, I slipped and slid the blade right down my knuckle. Fairly hard, too. It barely left a mark and even that was gone after half an hour. I have used toy saws that were more effective. The miter box is extremely small. However, I don't hold that against it because the measurements are clearly shown in the description and, after all, I did order this intending to use it for very small work. At that size, though, work-holding does become an important concern. The concept of the included "clamp" never got past the rough idea stage. It's basically just a screw that goes through one side of the box and tightens up against whatever workpiece is there. This assumes that there will be scrap material to hold at that distance from the cut. Also, it has to be scrap material, because the clamping surface is just the end of the screw that comes in rotating. I had to figure out different ways to actually get some holding power out of it. It wouldn't be hard to make some little jigs, but the saw's inability to cut negates the value of any such effort. A related problem caused by the small size of the miter box is that there are very few ways to secure it while working that don't result in damage. the blade doesnt screw in proper. the screws arent long enough to hold it in. i had to drill out the hole just to get the screw in deep enough to go through the guide hole. and still its not a tight fit because it doesnt lock the screw in place

I got this mainly for small trim pieces and hobby stuff… picture frames, thin wood strips, some plastic parts. For that kind of work it does exactly what it should. The metal mitre box feels solid and the angle slots are clean at 45, 67.5 and 90 degrees. The saw blade is thin and cuts pretty smooth, especially on wood and plastic. I also tried soft aluminum and it works, just slow and controlled. Don’t expect power-tool speed here… this is for precision, not volume. Handle grip is okay, not amazing but usable for short sessions. Assembly was a bit annoying though… one of the bolts is short and lining things up takes patience. The clamp screw also works but it’s slow, so I mostly don’t bother using it. Pros Solid metal box, feels sturdy Clean angles for small precise cuts Blade cuts smoothly on wood and plastic Very small, easy to store Cons Clamp screw is slow and not very practical Assembly could be better Not for big or heavy-duty jobs Overall: good value for small DIY and craft work, just don’t expect it to replace a real miter saw. ... show more

This mini mitre box is perfect for our small household applications, such as resizing slim picture frames and cutting narrow pieces of trim, as well as for our craft applications, like building miniatures and studio organizers. If you need to do anything more involved than that, this is not the right type of product to use. I appreciate that it included a saw that would be the perfect fit for its slots in case you lacked one. However, I would've appreciated it if the kit also included the tools needed to assemble it, so they could be stored alongside the set to swap out or store away the blades between uses. I also wish that it included two retaining screws instead of just one. I understand that you won't be able to use both at every angle -- which is perhaps an oversight in the length of this product -- but when you need them, you need them. Non-skid stickers for the bottom could also be nice for desktop applications. Everything seems to be high-quality in its construction and incredibly sturdy. I'm not concerned about the mitre box itself breaking down anytime soon. The retaining screw has very narrow threads, which takes a long time to screw in but ensures that it remains secure even as the box vibrates during use. Overall, this product is a great value for what it is, and my comments are mostly nitpicking. I would recommend this product to any household that DIYs or crafts. Its storage footprint is very small, so it's easy to keep in a toolbox or drawer where it's out-of-the-way until you need an angled cut in something. ... show more

I do a lot of home projects and often install trim. You often need to make little adjustments to trim. Running back and forth to the miter saw takes time. I got this just to make quick cuts. I did run into an issue installing the saw blade. The handle is thinner at the edge and the included nut and bolt fit it fine. The second bolt, where the handle is thicker was too short to thread. I had to drill out the hole in order to make the short bolt work. I did get the saw assembled and it works well. The saw is thin with fine teeth allowing for fast, even cuts. The miter box is setup to make the most common cuts: 45/67/90 degrees. There is a second blade, so this tool should last through many cuts. The one negative I found using this tool was the clamp. It is much too slow to screw in the clamp to make it usable. The clamp is not really needed, but that part of this could be made better. ... show more
