  • Excellent Product - Outstanding Customer Service
Size: 27.7 gallons
I’m very happy with this compost unit and wish I would have purchased it a long time ago. The quality is great and assembly was easy following the online instructions. Customer service is outstanding. I broke a couple clips during assembly so be careful when you push them in. I used their online Contact Form to ask for replacements and received some extra clips within a week! ... show more

  • A year later...I have compost!
Size: 27.7 gallons
I had worries that this thing wasn't working. But I checked on it recently after first having filled it up over a year ago and was pleasantly surprised to see moist compost! As the top had not processed, I had simply assumed the rest of it hadn't either. It wasn't until I tumbled it and looked "underneath" that I saw almost all the kitchen scraps had broken down. Now I have more compost than I need for my small patio garden. Keep in mind that I largely neglected this tumbler, spinning at most once a week, if that, though I was pretty good about ensuring that it stayed moist, even through the summer months. If you're more engaged with your tumbler, you'll have faster results. There's a bar that runs through the center that helps to break up the material. Rather than spinning it quickly, move it panel by panel and listen for the sound of the contents falling to the other side. I started with hydrated pine pellets (intended as horse bedding) from Tractor Supply (probably too much) and kitchen scraps. 7:3 ratio. The compost produced was moist, medium-brown...not quite dark, forest-y soil but it did smell of clean earth. In my newly started batch, I'm doing more of a 1:1 ratio. If it smells, I'll add more pine pellets. For a two-person household that largely cooks at home, eats out about two times a month, I would estimate I need 12 of these to process all of our organic waste in-house. Obviously, I'm not buying 12, but that gives me a good sense of the volume of space required. I expect my next batch to process faster as I left some of the last batch to innoculate the new batch (not sure this is how it works) and there's a lot less brown material in my "recipe." I can't tell you the joy I felt spreading all this homemade compost throughout my patio garden and feeling I was a small step closer to closing the loop. All remaining organic waste, which is 90% of it, I haul away to a community compost site. I look forward to the day when I can be free of this chore and instead have compost to give others. I give it four stars because the plastic does bulge a bit under the weight of the contents. Otherwise, it's holding together. I'd estimate this can process 8 gallons of densely packed kitchen waste in each cycle, assuming things are chopped to 1-2" chunks. ... show more

  • Good Investment for Entry Level Composting
Size: 27.7 gallons
Have had this product for a couple years now and I love it. I was recently on the hunt for some replacement parts (clips) and contacted D.F. Omer directly. Incredibly impressed with the speed and quality of the customer service team. Thanks for supporting your product so well :-)

  • Easy assembly, better quality than expected.
Size: 27.7 gallons
Easy assembly, I didn't download or read the instructions, assembly was kind of obvious. I took my time, so about 30 minutes to put it together. If you own a screw driver and have the technical skill to replace a light bulb you shouldn't have any trouble. It came with an extra clip and one extra screw of each type, which is good customer service. Based on some of the reviews I was prepared to epoxy the joints to keep it together, but that wasn't needed. It snaps together solid. Given the cost I didn't have high expectations. It is better than I was expecting. ... show more

  • We’ve had a few issues
Size: 18.5 gallons
This compost tumbler seems to be working fine for what I wanted so far. It wasn’t too hard to assemble, but having help is good since getting the clips for the side pieces was a little challenging. We used a small hammer and nothing broke. What I wish I had known about this: You will attract flying insects that are probably gnats and fruit flies - so if you want to put this on a patio or deck, make sure it is away from the door and door is closed when you open it. Also debris falls out of the small air holes when you spin this. Not an issue if it’s on the ground, but ours is on a patio, so it’s annoying. I’m looking for a tray to put under it when I rotate it. Overall, I think it’s good quality and holds quite a bit of material. It seems like it will last. If you want a small tumbler, this is a good option. Update: We’ve had this for a while now and had a few issues I wanted to add. We initially put this on a patio on the side of our house, but the debris falling out was an issue. I thought a tray would be a good idea until. It rained and I had standing water. Then a dark brown liquid (probably due to coffee grounds) began dripping out and staining the patio. So I moved it to a flower bed. (I dont have a back yard, just a patio, otherwise I would have gone with a different compost solution.). The flower bed is not level and after turning it, the metal piece at the bottom disengaged. It isn’t secured in any way. While getting my husband to help me resecure it (It’s getting pretty heavy, about half full) the side plastic piece started to come off. We were able to snap it back, but I am concerned that it hasn’t held together as well as I hoped. We decided not to add anything else but perhaps some leaves due to the weight. Since it’s early summer I may have added more green than is optimal. Hopefully this won’t be a complete bust. ... show more

  • Broke during build
Size: 18.5 gallons
The media could not be loaded. Broke it during building when I needed to realign the pieces. I actually decided on this one-container spinner based on how durable and practical the size is with the hole and side grip to spin. My old double spinner containers are upcycled into planters in my garden. It's the metal that disintegrates. However I haven't even finished building this one and the container snapped. That's another weak link. I was trying to save money but wish I had invested in a a dream composter with crank. Sigh. ___ Update, replacement works. Score key: ⭐️ 1 star= Dissappointed. I don't recommend it at all, poor quality, or it does not reflect the advertising. ⭐️⭐️ 2 stars = Has some reedeeming quality. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3 stars = It's passable. Might not have bothered. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4 stars = Mostly Satisified. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 stars = Entirely Satisfied. Recommend. ... show more
