Description

Sharpen your Global knives with this two stage sharpener. It has a black and grey design and sharpening wheels made from whetstone to give your dull knives a sharp edge. There is a white wheel with a coarse grit that sharpens dull blades and a pink medium grit wheel for sharpening and polishing. A clear cover lets you see into the sharpener and protects you from the sharpening wheel while giving you sharp 18 degree edges. This intuitive hand-held sharpener is safe with non slip feet for your protection and is compact for easy storage. 8" L x 1-3/4" W x 2-3/4" H This device employs two ceramic wheels--one coarse, the other fine--to return a dull knife to working order. Using the sharpener is simple and easy. Fill the wheels' compartment with water so your blade is continuously washed while it's being sharpened. Then draw a knife seven or eight times through the coarse (white) wheel. Then draw your blade seven or eight times through the fine (pink) wheel to bring it back to life. The sharpener's plastic handle is shaped so it can be gripped firmly and safely and has a soft, rubber-like insert for comfort. --Fred Brack Recommended for sharpening Global knives but not necessarily those from other manufacturers, this device employs two ceramic wheels--one coarse, the other fine--to return a dull knife to working order. Frequently asked questions

The Ceramic Wheel Water Sharpener utilizes a water reservoir to keep the ceramic sharpening wheels wet during the sharpening process. As you gently pull the knife blade through the wheels, the wet ceramic sharpens the blade. The water acts as a lubricant, reducing heat and preventing any metal from being removed too quickly, which helps maintain the knife’s integrity and sharpness.

The Ceramic Wheel Water Sharpener is designed for use with straight-edge blades, such as kitchen knives. It is not suitable for serrated blades or scissors. Always check the manufacturer's recommendations to ensure compatibility with your specific knives.

The frequency of use depends on how often you use your knives and what you're cutting. For household kitchen knives used daily, sharpening every 1-2 months is a good rule of thumb. However, for less frequently used knives, sharpening every 3-6 months should suffice. Pay attention to the performance of your knives, and sharpen them when you notice a decline in cutting efficiency.

Yes, cleaning the Ceramic Wheel Water Sharpener is straightforward. Empty the water reservoir and rinse it under running water. The ceramic wheels can also be rinsed gently. Avoid using detergents or harsh cleaners to ensure the longevity of the ceramic wheels. Allow the sharpener and the wheels to dry completely before reassembling and storing.

  • Works on Globals but also on German Knives
I bought this to sharpen several Global knives after comparing it to the confusing and expensive arrays of sharpening stones out there. The sharpener is easy to use and made of high quality materials. To operate Simply fill the small tray with water and run the knife thru the offset grooves over a course and fine ceramic wheel. After a minute i was done with several knives. Comparing the globals afterward I had mixed feelings because the knives were already pretty sharp to begin with. The revelation though was how well it worked on my Wusthof Grand Prix Knives. In fact they restored them to better than new as i was always dissatisfied with them because they were never very sharp which led me to Globals to begin with. Now the Wusthof's are of comparable sharpness. This is a great item and well worth the price. ... show more

  • Indispensable for my Kitchen
Most every chef will tell you that the most important tool in the kitchen is a good knife. However, no knife stays "good" very long without proper sharpening. Most real chefs swear by their whetstone that they sharpen at their estimated angle. This is great for them, and maybe it is the best way to preserve the blade of the knife, but I've been using this sharpener for years on my Global and Wusthof knives and it is: 1) Fast (meaning I don't avoid the chore at all) 2) Razor sharp (best way to tell this is slicing tomatoes) 3) Small, easily fitting in my kitchen drawer 4) Not expensive Perhaps it does shorten the length of life of my knives, but replacing the most important tool in your kitchen every 10-20 years for less than the cost of a microwave is hardly that much to ask when you consider the convenience and effectiveness of this tool. ... show more

  • This is terrific!!
I bought one of these for my brother and he just loves it! Then, I bought one for myself after trying his out. The only problem you have with this is that the wheels need replacing after a year or so, but that's also with a LOT of use. The wheels are available online but are almost $15.00 each so maybe it's better to just buy a new unit altogether. I also have 3 other knife sharpeners, one electric, two hand held, but this is, by far, the best of them all. It's simple to use and creates a nice, sharp edge. ... show more

  • Works great!
I have been extremely pleased with the performance of this sharpener on my Global knives. Simple to use and excellent sharpening. I had a minor chip on the clear plastic cover and the vendor replaced the order rapidly. Impressive customer service.

  • Would you look at that?!!
Got a 4 piece Global set as a house warming gift. 4 years later and I have not sharpened them, 7-9 swipes through this sharpener with each knife and BOOM! As sharp as the day I took them out the box!

  • Works well
I bought this sharpener for my Global G-2 8-Inch 20cm Cook's Knife. Other users have complained that their knives were duller after using this or that the sharpener scratched their knife. I haven't had either of these problems. I think you are more likely to scratch the knife if you pull it through too fast. I will admit that the knife doesn't get quite as sharp as I'd like, but I'm not comfortable using the whetstone. I'm worried that I won't hold the knife at the correct angle. This sharpener makes it easy. ... show more

  • overpriced but decent sharpener
Contrary to common lore, global knives do get dull. They will need to be sharpened (not just honed). Not any sharpener will do, either, unless you aren't worried about damaging your knife. So they really stick you with the cost of this ceramic sharpener. It does work decently. But at $43, it's way overpriced. ... show more
