  • Excellent "pick'n'mix" of management tips!
If ever there was a book for managers and aspiring leaders that will live on your desk, and not untouched on a coffee table, this is it! "Mind Tools for Managers" is packed with hands-on, practical information and guidance to help you handle almost any workplace challenge that you can imagine. Worried about office politics? Looking for advice on developing your team members? Want a few refreshers for brushing up your communication skills? You'll find the help that you need. But the book's accessibility is not at the expense of authority or credibility. The authors have decades of management and leadership expertise between them, and the tips, tools and strategies that they have assembled are drawn from the experiences of more than 15,000 managers and leaders from all over the world. You can dip in and out of the 100 tips, "tools" and resources as part of your own personal or professional development, or you can use it to quickly find the answers to any management conundrums you're experiencing. For example, as a new manager, I found the number of hours in the day seemed to disappear overnight! But a quick flick through the contents highlighted a range of genuinely useful time management tips. The authors appreciate that their audience want quick answers to immediate problems, so the content is clear and concise, and the layout is easy to follow. This isn't an academic volume, it's meant to be picked up, thumbed through, put down, used as a coaster, and picked up again. And again. ... show more

  • A concise, practical and helpful introduction to Management Tools
Great for any manager even for those who had taken up Management Studies in colleges because they will still learn something new and inspiring in it. In short, recommended, especially for fans of authors like Edward de Bono. p.s. Below please find some favourite passages of mine fyr. Meaning, or purpose, is one of the key intrinsic motivators in the workplace. In other words, if you want to do a good job, and if you want people around you to do likewise, you need to be clear about the fundamental reason why a piece of work needs doing in the first place. pgXXV How are OKRs (Objectives Key Results) defined? Typically your manager will gather a team together to discuss the overall plan. Then he or she will work with each individual and agree on the personal objectives that that help deliver on the collective goal. Rather than simply tell people what to do, the manager should ask for each individual’s insights into the goals being set, giving them the opportunity to discuss any problems they se and bid for any additional resources needed. Pg58 Systematically identify what needs to be done – Gap Analysis. 1. Define the scope of the project 2. Identify the desired future state 3. Identify the current state 4. Identify how to bridge the gap. Pg62 Key principles of Good Communication (7Cs). Complete. Clear. Concise. Concrete (Facts, figures, actions). Considerate. Courteous. Correct. Pg133 Ask for Feedback (SKS Technique) 1. What should I stop doing? 2. What should I keep on doing? 3. What should I start doing? Pg194 ... show more
