  • Just type away
First off, with only a little price difference between this and the Type Cover 2, Microsoft wants you to pick depending on more than price. And I actually did choose this considering more than price since I already have a Type Cover 2 to start with. The Type Cover 2 is an excellent keyboard/cover. It's as close as it'll get to a laptop keyboard or fancy tablet keyboard. It works great and requires no adapting. The Touch Cover (2) on the other hand is often overlooked just because the concept is really hard to accept. How do you type on a surface (<--see what I did there) with no actual buttons? I thought the same but since I wanted to maximize portability with my RT and then Pro, I decided to give it a shot. And since third party/used prices for these are so low (and much lower than the Type versions), why not give it a shot? Worst case is you end up with a durable and high quality screen cover. When you first try using the Touch keyboard and think too much on it, it'll actually be quite difficult to use and you find yourself with asgoua so gdmuch gllsd stypos. What works for me is just to tap/type like you would normally do and just let your familiarity with computer keyboards kick in. When I freely type with muscle memory (with the assumption that I'll hit the keys I want), I rarely get typos. You just have to let it go let it GOOOO (sorry) and the keyboard becomes like a normal keyboard and it is ridiculously good. It does however, work best on a flat surface as I tend to drift my hands to the wrong alignment on other surfaces. But overall, it's so good/good enough for me that I'm getting rid of my Type Cover 2. I notice the bulk and weight of the Type Cover more so than the typing issues of the Touch Cover. Your miles may vary, but it works for me. ... show more

  • Works great!
I wanted a keyboard for my Surface 2 RT for the times that the on-screen keyboard wasn't sufficient. We have a Surface RT with the Type cover (both first-gen) in our test lab at work so I was able to "try before I buy". I really liked the Touch cover; it was accurate, felt good typing, and was thin and light. So I bought the Touch Cover 2 and have been very pleased with it. The backlit keys are nice and I haven't had any problems. It serves the double purpose of protecting the screen when the tablet isn't in use. Would definitely buy again. ... show more

  • Works surprisingly well
This keyboard is surprisingly responsive despite being almost perfectly flat with no tactile give, and I was delighted to discover that it's even back-lit! It's not as pleasant as a real keyboard, but it definitely works.

  • Better than the Type Cover
After going back and forth between the Touch Cover 2 and the Type Cover 2, I chose the former for the following reasons: 1. It's thinner. At just 2.5 mm, it barely adds thickness to the Surface 2's profile. The Type Cover 2 is twice as thick at 5 mm. 2. It's lighter by 65 grams. When you hold the Surface for an extended period of time, you do feel its heft so every gram shed matters. 3. It's better for flipping. When I'm browsing the web or reading magazines, I flip the cover back. You can also flip the Type Cover but the moving keys can be annoying. 4. Its backlight do not bleed. Unlike the Type Cover, the Touch Cover do not have any opening so only the letters are illuminated. 5. It's dirt-resistant and easy to clean. While both the Type Cover and Touch Cover are mostly made of the same material, the keys in the Type Cover attracts smudges. The Touch Cover is made entirely of that felt material which is resistant to oil and dust. Unlike its previous iteration, Touch Cover 2 is very sensitive, capturing even feather-light presses. This means you can be very accurate with this keyboard, given that your fingers are also accurate. The lack of physical keys means you don't get the feedback you get from standard keyboard, but with practice, the depression on the home keys is enough for accurate touch-typing. ... show more

Works well when it wants to. Can be difficult at times to type with because you either have to type really hard for the sensor to catch or you type the wrong letter. Decent for the price though.

  • Great feel, great protection
This cover is great. It has a nice feel. It's sturdy for what it is, and offers great screen protection when folded up. When typing, the feel of the keys is amazing. There are little depressions betwixt the letters to simulate a three dimensional keyboard, but the keys do not themselves depress. Personally, I love this style keyboard. It feels great to type on. The keys do tend to leave smudges on the screen when unfolding. This is from oil and condensation. Easy enough to wipe off. I recommend storing a microfiber cloth betwixt the screen and the keyboard. This not only protects from this smudging, but also gives you a convenient way to clean the screen every time you open. No excuses, fewer fingerprints, better experience. I was told this cover (the back of it) doubles as a microfiber cloth, but I call shenanigans. I've tried to use it to clean the screen of my Surface several times and it has no effect. Color is "Charcoal," not a deep black. ... show more

  • frustrating and useless; I'm buying a bluetooth keyboard
I bought this case because, frankly, I thought it was a necessity and that the tablet would not work the same without it. Not only was I wrong (for the most part) but this keyboard is awful for several reasons: 1. I find the keys to be weirdly placed. It's frustrating and awkward to use them. If you like tyipingnlikw thia (typing like this) then this keyboard is going to be a great thing to have in your life. 2. there's lag. Another thing that makes me just take it off and use the surface's on screen keyboard when I need to type anything. 3. the track pad? basically useless. 4. it feels cheaply made. the lights don't always work I'm sure there are more that I'm just not thinking of at this time. ... show more

  • if you aren't going to be writing a book, this keyboard is perfect.
it is no type cover, but it is so incredibly better then the touch cover 2. it does take some time getting use to, but after having the touch cover 1 this is far better. i like it because it is light and is a great cover. if you do buy the touch cover 2, be sure to look for tips and tricks, like using the numbers to delete...pretty cool. ... show more
