As a homeschooling family, I knew we were eventually going to need a microscope. My son already has a toy one with fake slides to learn a bit about how they work. I decided to buy one to give myself time to learn how to use it again since I haven't used one since I was in high school. This microscope was a good price for an entry level one (plus there was a coupon at the time of buying it). It is very sturdy and solid feeling. I like that it has a plug and a battery option (we often school on the go or in various parts of our home). I do wish there was some information or maybe YouTube videos on how to use a microscope for those of us who aren't as experienced, but I'm sure I can find a tutorial myself online. It comes with a lot more accessories than I was expecting which will make actually using it much less stressful for this mom. ... show more

I have always wanted to get a microscope but between being unfamiliar with them and the cost I never bought one. I am so glad that I decided to finally try one and it is wonderful. It is really cool to see so many things magnified. I feel like a kid doing science experiments.

The microscope works well! One nice feature is that there are two ways to power it on (AC or 3-AAA batteries.) The phone mount is a little flimsy so it can be difficult to get it to work, but it's useful for taking quick pictures. The accessories included 3 pre-made slides and several blank slides with cover glass for wet mounts. I would suggest if you're buying this product as a gift, consider getting some additional pre-made slides so they can have a variety of specimens to look at with the microscope.
