  • Fancy plastic: looks good, feels odd in hand
Size: 4 Count (Pack of 1) Color: Red Bordeaux
I’m clumsy, have numbness in my fingers sometimes and drop things or knock them over or they strike the kitchen sink in washing. I’ve broken lots of stoneware dishes, mugs, and glass glasses over the years. I got so I’d buy cheap novelty wine glasses at 75% off (¢70/ea!) after seasonal holidays like Valentines Day (with heart appliqués) or Christmas (trees and Santa) so I didn’t care when they broke, but I didn’t want to use them for company. I finally gave up and bought a set of unbreakable Corelle dishes, and then looked for unbreakable wine glasses to go with them. I looked at stainless steel, but they cost $20-$30 for just 2 and $40 or more for 4; and because light won’t pass through steel, you can’t see the color of the wine in the same way. I figured I’d try getting 4 of these glasses for the same price as 2 steel ones. It was a little disconcerting how light the glass was to lift when it had 6-8 oz of wine in it, and even after adjusting to the overall weight, I was still thrown off by the fact that the stem feels *so* much lighter than the bowl with wine in it. I felt I had to hold the glass with thumb and index finger firmly against the lower 1/3 of the bowl, and my middle finger also pressed the bowl just a bit above the stem joint to keep it completely stable in my hand. If you hold the glass by the stem alone with even 4 oz of wine in it, it feels very top-heavy and unstable. I’m adjusting with some effort. Though they are nowhere near as light (and flimsy) as the disposable “wine glasses” used at some large informal public functions like street fairs, or sold in grocery stores for private parties and picnics, the feel of them against your hand is still “plastic, not glass” and in my mind, at least, that is associated with a cheaper, less formal, less sophisticated experience. So these aren’t the glasses for a formal five-course dinner on fine porcelain, the kind that would cost hundreds of dollars a plate at a fancy restaurant (does anyone still host dinner parties like that at home? Maybe Dukes and Marquesses in England…). But if your family and friends are OK with Corelle plates and stainless flatware instead of silver, maybe they’ll find these acceptable. I was afraid the lack of weight at the base might also make it more prone to knockovers when sitting on a surface, but so far that hasn’t been the case. The bowl is well-balanced across its diameter, and the weight of the wine does help stabilize the glass vertically when it’s placed on a table. The stem’s base sits flat and level. And at least if one does eventually tip over, all that will be lost is some wine. I have considered trying to attach something to the base to add weight, but I haven’t come up with any ideas other than trying to find some heavy examples of those “wine glasses ID tags” you attach to the stems to help guests find their glass again after walking around at a party. Gluing a metal disk on the base might work, but (aside from the challenge of finding one the right size), my experience of using epoxies or superglue with plastics is hit-or-miss: they can react unfortunately with some plastic, melting or distorting it. It would be nice if the vendor would consider molding a weight into the base in the manufacturing process, though that could increase the price. However, if metal was inserted or attached, it might have negative effects on the integrity of the plastic if the metal reached too high a temperature in a dishwasher. I haven’t put these through the dishwasher at all yet, so I can’t compare how they behave in that context compared to glass. Getting knocked around in the dishwasher (or in the sink with handwashing) is another common source of glass breakage, but I’d expect these would hold up better on that front. But I don’t know yet if the process will cause the same tiny scratches that eventually cause a diminution of clarity in most plastic glasses and some glass ones subjected to regular machine washing. I will make observations over time and update this review as necessary. I ordered 4 of these (15 oz, for Bordeaux red) and 4 of the 17 oz rounded ones for red Burgundy ($4 cheaper for a box of 4). I received 2 boxes of the Bordeaux instead (total 8 glasses, all the same type). Since I got more expensive glasses than I ordered and was charged for, I guess I can’t complain, and now I’m ready for a dinner for 8 with at least one wine, I guess. Actually, given my experience of the 15 oz glass feeling top-heavy with wine in it, maybe it’s better not to get the larger bowl. I’ll probably end up getting a couple of steel glasses too, but 8 of those would set me back $160-$210 instead of $42. These were a decent buy for the money. ... show more

The box came destroyed but the product came in once piece! Can you even tell which one is plastic and which is glass? Yeah, based on this photo, I can’t either! Buy them! • Great purchase
Size: 6 Count (Pack of 1) Color: Red Bordeaux
Thin plastic, but sturdy. Not clunky. Feels like a real glass. Generous size at 20oz. Perfect for sangrias or mimosas. We’ll packaged. Very pleased. Hoping they don’t turn foggy after dishwasher use.

  • Looks good
Size: 6 Count (Pack of 1) Color: Red Bordeaux
Overall, I like the look of the wine glass. They are a little small, but I like that they are unbreakable. I only use it as a display in our bar console. Maybe I’ll use it for outdoors next time! The only issue is the vertical line but it’s plastic so that’s okay; although it feels somewhat solid so that’s a plus. Aside from the vertical line, it’s great, otherwise! ... show more

Size: 6 Count (Pack of 1) Color: Red Bordeaux
I bought two sets of these wine glasses for gifts. Our children both have pools and enjoy drinking a glass of wine by the pool but have a rule no glass at the pool. Well these glasses fill that order. They are so great several people sad I thought you said no glass at the pool? They had t touch the glass to prove it was plastic. They wash up great and do not become scratchy looking. Great purchase and makes for a great gift. ... show more
