This popped up on Amazon when I was searching for vent ducting. I never knew there was a need for something like this, much less a wide selection of solutions for subgrade dryers. We have a dryer in our basement and the exhaust vent is 8 feet above the dryer. We've always heard a rattling in the ducts from debris that made it passed the lent trap and got stuck. After a remodel where I had to disconnect the duct work to move the dryer, we decided to give this a try. After the first use, I am glad we did. When we moved the dryer, there was a handful of lint, hair and small rubbish in the duct. There isn't enough force produced by the dryer to move that stuff 8 ft and it had accumulated. After this was installed, it is catching a lot of that stuff and keeping our duct cleaner. It catches enough that we have to clean it about every 3rd use. It has made a huge difference and there is no more rattling in our ducts. It is metal and solidly constructed. There is a clear panel in the front so you can see when to clean it. It has 2 metal filters with different size gaps in the mesh. The larger goes on the bottom and the smaller one goes above it, right in front of the exit port. When it's time to clean them, there is a latch that is easy to open with one hand and you just pull them out. The larger mesh one is usually the one to fill up first. The only issue we found with ours is that the front seal is not quite air tight and it created a whistling noise when the dryer was running. I put a few lengths of electrical tape around the edges of the box, and this fixed it. The box does get warm when the dryer is going, but I don't think it'll ever get hot enough to cause injury or damage. The duct tube that was included was flimsy, so we didn't use it. This was my personal preference and I am sure the supplied duct would be sufficient in most cases. I wanted something more rigid. The box attaches with a screw, included, at each corner and is about the size of a square Kleenex box. Easy to install for anyone with a level and screwdriver. Works like it should.

It has been a month and I love it. I read the review about air leakage so I put dryer vent aluminum tape around the edges (see pic). It works great. My dryer vents up through my attic. I am not able to clean the vent on the roof without calling a service so I had to vent out my window when drying. I had my vents cleaned and installed this kit. I stacked my washer dryer so I could reach this easily. It catches a lot of lint. No air leaks once the vent tape is around the edges. I clean it out every couple of loads.

1st off the trap is well made, even the screens inside are all steel. But the design is only 80% of what it could/should be. I noticed right off that the door doesn't have any seal on it, so lint will surely make it past and into your home. A more minor thing is that the screens are not sealed around their edges so lint can make it past them too. A trap needs to do what it's name implies! The more major thing for me was that the connections are undersize for attaching it to the rigid 4" duct my dryer has. Rigid duct is the only type that should be used for a dryer - just toss out the flexible duct they send with the trap. That stuff is a fire hazard! I fixed these problems be installing some thin foam gasket tape to both the back wall of the trap where the screens sit and on the inside of the door. I also tweaked the catch for the latch so it would pull in the door tighter onto my gaskets. I used a 1/4" thick foam gasket tape around the connections so that my duct would have a good seal. So I'd think it would be better if they ditched including the flexible duct and instead put the cost of that into gaskets and an adaptor of some sort to accommodate rigid duct.

I give the product a high rating because of its material construction. A lower deserved rating because of its lack of sealing at all potential leak locations. The windowed door has no real snug fit which required me to place weatherproofing sealing foam so that all areas were free from escaping air/burn off of the gas dryer which the product states it's approved for use. The top and bottom entry ports for the dryer venting pipe are sized a little too small for standard 4" vent pipe which also required a security measure in order to avoid air or lint to leak out into dryer area. I used a rubberized tape to build up a collar. The included flexible vent pipe(hose) is always the very last choice in venting anything that might have lint escaping which means that will NOT be used in my application. Literally, a needless addition to the package. The overall construction of the product for its intent and purposes is good, except for my listed shortcomings.

After having to disassemble, clean, disinfect, and reassemble our dryer after a Mr mouse decided to lodge himself in the dryer fan to divide and conquer, then get crispy, I was on the hunt for a unique solution to a horrendous problem. Our dryer is unfortunately vented down through our floor, making it hard to prevent such things from happening without rerouting the vent and repairing the floor and making a new hole in our drywall or crawling on a sharp bed of rocks with who knows what to inspect and repair the vent. So I found this and decided to give it a try. Easy to access, adds a layer of rodent proofing, and it was very easy to install. We installed directly into the floor by bending the lower mounting tabs out of the way and using our existing coupler. We then used the included hose and hooked up our dryer to this lint trap as normal. It feels super secure and I have great confidence in its durability. And even if the internal screens rust at some point it’s easy to visually inspect for damage and affordable to replace.
