I have tried cheap variable speed grinders, they will do the job, but they lose a lot of speed under pressure at low speeds. I used the Metabo variable speed grinder to polish stone countertop, on the lowest setting, it was impossible to stall this grinder, or even slow it down. Easy to change tool heads, multi speed for specific needs. Wood carving, metal cutting, grinding, cleanup of surfaces. Comfortable in my hand, the biggest con is the $$. I prefer to buy once, cry once. My son will inherit this and not know why he happy using my hand-me-down tools. But they will all last longer than I will live. ... show more

This was a replacement that I purchased after returning a inexpensive adjustable speed grinder that was absolutely 👎, not worth. The comparison can start from turning on the grinder and listening to the motor. It wore out in 2 hours so that may have something to do with appreciating high quality. If you need a good adjustable speed grinder spend the $ and add to your shop. ... show more

    • Best value Metabo grinder in $100-200 range...
For the price I consider this Metabo grinder as the best value because of 13.5 amp motor, variable speed and higher torque 9600 rpm...Plus even though it's sold as a 5" grinder it has the power to handle 6" wheels...In fact the 6" Metabo grinder without variable speed costs $50 more has the same motor and gearbox as the WEV15-125 HT...Go figure... I recently compared this Metabo to the Makita GA4542C...While the Makita is a fine grinder as a tradesman I consider the Metabo a superior grinder, except the Makita seems to have slightly less vibration...But the Metabo has clearly more torque power and frankly is designed more for the everyday use of a tradesman...Such design as the air inlet on the back of the Metabo is preferred, rather than the side like the Makita which allows dirt and grime to easily enter the motor from dirty hands and gloves...BTW, welders always have dirty gloves filled with oily grime...Extra available accessories like the multi position handle bracket, snap on cutting guard and quick disc removal system make the Metabo more appealing as well... The Metabo grinders seem to be rated the best Worldwide by Tradesmen and this WEV15-125 HT certainly maintains that rating... UPDATE: 12-4-18 Price was $184.99 when I wrote the review...Now it's $158.99 on Amazon Prime..Even better value at $75 cheaper than the 6" non variable speed version... kd ... show more

Amazon has prompted me to use the terms thickness and sheerness, so there, I've done it. Now to the angle grinder review, it's a nice tool. Plenty of power, might buy the paddle switch version of I did it again, but this works just fine. I really wanted the variable speed and heard from someone in the industry that Metabos from Germany we're decent. Seems good so far, using it to shape wood. ... show more

    • Bad guard lock lever
When I handled one of these in person shortly before this purchase, the feature that ended up selling me was the quality of the shroud locking lever. It was a precisely machines and finished component and its solid feel screamed quality. This tool, upon arrival, had in place of that lever a cheap, stamped and plated sheet metal lever. It bothered me so much that I ordered a replacement from the factory and replaced it myself. I did not even see a part catalog number for the cheap alternative lever on this example. I have no other indications that would make me think this is fully a knock-off, but that experience did not instill confidence and was an expensive hassle. Chews like an iron defficient beaver & purrs like a kitten. Quit messing around and buy the best. This thing rocks! So good in fact, I bought two; this one and the 11,000 RPM Quick model. Same machine, just slightly spdifferent gear ratio. Hint: Get the Metabo part # 339203050 and turn your 5” grinder into a 6” grinder! I’ve been running both of mine flawlessly with 6” wheels. The 13.5 Amp motor pulls it just the same. Compare specs to the 150 mm version. They are the exact same. You can also order an all metal bracket so you can adjust your handle 180°.
