  • My baby's favorite
Style: Grain Free Flavor Name: Chicken Size: 12 Pound (Pack of 1)
This was my Barkley's favorite until he developed kidney failure and had to be put on a special diet. Barkley always had a sensitive stomach and the brand was the best one for him. He seemed pretty excited every time I filled his bowl. I feel odd leaving a five-star review of the flavor, but I think that's what B would say. The scent was not overpowering or offensive at all. Value for money? Yes, it costs more, but for a happy tummy and less vomit to clean up, I'll gladly pay. Finally, please enjoy this picture of Mr. Barkley. I know your day is better for having seen his cute face. ... show more

  • Excellent quality!
Style: Grain Free Flavor Name: Chicken Size: 12 Pound (Pack of 1)
Close to perfect for all my cats! After over 50 years of multiple cat ownership, I have learned that *no* cat food is totally perfect for every cat in the world - not even for every one of the eight cats currently living in my household. You find whatever is closest for the majority, and provide whatever might be additionally required for any cat with individual special needs. I have also learned that, as a rule, cats don't appreciate changes in their diets, and you have give them time to adjust to something new. Please don't permit your cat to dictate what you feed it! They often make unwise choices - which I quickly learned when I began seriously reading and comparing the labels that list the contents of the food. Even many of the "big name" companies have cat food that is comparable to humans' "junk food" - and you wouldn't permit your child to live on candy and potato chips simply because that was the food your child preferred! I have also learned from several veterinarians that good quality canned food should be fed in addition to dry kibble - for a variety of reasons. This is always recommended, *unless* it's specifically directed otherwise by your vet due to a medical condition. This product is, in a word, EXCELLENT. I had been feeding an expensive kibble, produced by a major manufacturer, that contained as the MAJOR INGREDIENTS!) brewers rice, poultry by-product meal (and you can imagine what "poultry by-products are") and corn gluten meal. Poultry by-products can contain ground feathers, feet and toenails - anything not fit for normal consumption. Read what's on the label of your current cat food and compare it to Merrick cat foods - then decide what you want to feed your cat. And don't let your cat manipulate you into feeding her/him "kitty junk food" that tastes good to them because of things like "animal liver flavor" and "filet mignon flavor" - which would probably make cardboard tasty but which has zero nutritional value! ... show more

  • SAFER FOR YOUR CATS
Style: Grain Free Flavor Name: Kitten Size: 4 Pound (Pack of 1)
I think for feeding my cats dry, this is one of the better brands as it doesn't contain careenagen which is known to cause health problems and tumors in animals (also in humans by the way). I have two kittens and I wanted to be sure they got adequate kitten nutrition as I also feed Natural Instinct wet food to my cats (which also lacks careenagen). I find Merrick brand to be better than some of the other "wellness" type of dry foods. If you read the label and see a lot of "meat meal" vs "real meat" it is a bad sign. Also my kittens like it. I also like that it doesn't contain a fish smell a tell tale sign they are using fish by products or soy which is also not good. In fact fish based cat food is linked to causing hyperthyroidism in cats. We just lost our beloved cat of 15 years to hyperthyroidism and we are convinced it was not only aging but the cat food we were feeding. We feel horrible that we didn't know this sooner so that we could adjust the food and maybe preserve his life. But after much research I felt good about buying this in addition to wet food. I feel that is the best way to honor my sweet boys memory by doing the research as I am a nutrition coach by profession. It's very important to pay attention to labels even for our furry friends. We thought we were doing the right thing, but after really looking closely at the label and researching hyperthyroidism causes this is the conclusion we have come to. ... show more

  • Seems to work for sensitive tummies!
Style: Grain Free Flavor Name: Kitten Size: 7 Pound (Pack of 1)
This is the only food my elderly cat consistently keeps down. I know it's for kittens, but we have tried too many others to want to continue trying. Two years ago she started vomiting a lot and she lost 1/4 of her body weight. Vet had us try rx wet food of various types of meat. Tried bland stuff like baby food, brown rice and shredded plain chicken. With every option, she either wouldn't eat enough or it would cause her to throw up. And that was with drugs to help with the nausea. This went on for a month plus. But at some point she found out where we were keeping this kitten food that we were giving our young cat, and she started sneaking it. It took a week for us to figure out how she was gaining weight while continuing to pick at the food we were giving her. So we kept monitoring her, and no vomiting. She's been on it for 2 years and is still maintaining her weight. Unfortunately our other cat is getting a pretty big back end staying on kitten food for so long, but our vet agrees that we should keep going with whatever is working, even if it was unexpected and not 100% ideal. Of course, this is just anecdotal, but just wanted to share our experience in case it helps someone else! ... show more

  • Good enough cat food
Style: Grain Free Flavor Name: Chicken Size: 12 Pound (Pack of 1)
I've been feeding this to my cats since they were kittens. Besides one of them being a big fatty, I haven't had any issues. I doubt that is the food's fault...he just likes to eat, lol. The product is consistent and my cats like the chicken and the salmon recipe just fine. It's not the best dry food out there as far as the ingredients go, but it walks a pretty good line between healthy and affordable. I do make sure to feed wet food at least once a day. Kibble is really not the best for cats, but it's sometimes the best we can do when life is busy. Merrick gets the job done. ... show more
