I have used this dog food for my dogs for about three years when I stopped cooking their food and didn't want to go back to kibble. The dogs like it fine - one dog will eat anything, the other doesn't care for this cold so I take the chill out of the refrigerated portion by microwaving for about 15 seconds. It's great to have cans for travel and storage. There was a recent price increase of about $10/case in the past few years and it is very expensive now. Two of my small dogs use this as supplementary food. They're both on meds that require food, and this is an easy way to make sure they eat post-meds. They love it, but the stuff is very watery when you open the can. Now, mine will enjoy it regardless, but I do prefer it firmer, as it's easier to overfeed when it's so soupy. Note that it smells stronger at room temp, so if you've got someone refusing to eat, room temp food is definitely more tempting to them. If that's not a concern, a little bit of prep definitely helps. First, open the can. Grab a spoon or fork and carefully break up any clumps/chunks of meat. Then cover the can with one of those plastic lids for cans and refrigerate. Refrigeration will firm it up to a nice paté, and breaking the clumps beforehand ensures an even consistency. If you go through a lot of the canned stuff, however, it's probably a better idea to refrigerate the lot, without opening. (Once you open the can, even with refrigeration the clock is ticking to spoilage.) The downside is there will be chunks, but it's a lot better than the room temp soup. My chihuahua is a picky little guy. He loves the whole chicken wings. They are processed so they are soft and safe to eat and I have yet to see a dog that doesn’t like them. Totally worth it. Spoil your dog if you are looking for something different

Several times I have bought a case of Wingalings on Amazon when the food in each of the cans has been very sour smelling. There was also a difference in the appearance of the food in and out of the can. When I opened the bad cans, the food was at the bottom and the “gravy” was a dull color. I took pictures of the food out of one such can and the food out of another can from a separate case. I think the pictures speak due themselves. Too bad they are not scratch and sniff, but the pictures tell the tale. It does seems that Merrick has a consistency problem with the quality of its food. So, if you buy a case if Merrick, be sure and open a can right away because there always is a return date deadline, if, in fact, Amazon requires a return. Be cautious and if you think the food is not good, toss it. When I opened the cans that had bad food, there was no question as to whether the food was bad. It made me want to throw up. Just be aware that Merrick does sell bad cases of dog food. In 2018, I called Amazon, the vendor and Merrick to report the first case of spoiled dog food bought, but Merrick still is letting spoiled dog food have a pass and is sending it on to unsuspecting consumers and their innocent pets. The bones in the Wingaling cans are not a Merrick mistake. They are supposed to be there. They are very soft, sort of like the round bones in cans of salmon. Merrick did raise the price per ounce on the Wingling when they changed their product from a 13.2 oz can to a 12.7 oz can. I have had bad food in both size cans. ... show more
