I'm on my feet 8-12 hours a day. The last pair of merrels I bought lasted me two years, wearing year round, every day in colder months and almost daily in warmer, and all that failed were the seams. The break in period is rough to me, and the soles don't offer much. I have to put in arch support/foam inserts, but that's their only fault. I've had Skechers boots that while, insanely. Comfy wear out pretty fast given the cost.

I read a bunch of reviews in search of a comfortable, waterproof ankle-high hiking boot, with good traction. I finally settled on these, and they exceeded my expectations. I took them to Yosemite, brand new, and hit the trails. They are comfortable out of the box. I found them true to size, but I did not use extra thick socks. These have more flexibility/movement in the toes than other hiking boots I own. After 5+ miles on uneven terrain (on snow, slush, rocks, crossing streams, marsh, mud, climbing over downed trees, etc), these kept my feet dry, supported, and steady. I like these so much, I insisted my husband get a pair for our next trip/adventure.

My old Merrell's were literally falling apart after 13 years of use. I ordered a half size up just like old one so I could wear thick socks if needed. Fit is perfect and they feel like home. Not stiff, right amount of support for my bum ankle. And the color is better in person! A nice dark gray and dark purple. They are waterproof too. Very happy with these and I'm sure they will last a long time.
