  • Bought in Nov, 2022, and it took until May, 2023 to break them in. Pathetic.
Size: 10 Color: Brindle
This is an downgrade in stars from 4 to 3 from my first review. I am using them finally, but they have been a disappointment from the start. I bought these to replace my Moab hikers in 9.5 wide (although my feet aren't wide at all). These I ordered in size 10. What a mistake. The bed of the shoe was too big, duh, but I needed the toe box to be bigger. They made my right foot's little toe hurt so bad, that after wearing them around in the house until December, 2022, I still couldn't use them to walk or hike in. This did not resolve itself at all, so finally I relegated them to gardening shoes this year. I wore them outside mucking in the garden for about a month and then tried them again on a short walk of about 2 miles, and they felt better. Now they seem okay for longer walks of up to 4 miles (I'm 75, so real hikes are not what they used to be). Won't buy them again though because no shoe should take that long to break in and like I said, I'm old. If Merrell fits you, go for it, but if you have any reservations, be prepared for the long haul, or to return them. ... show more

  • More comfortable than the Moab...
1. Not enough leather vs. mesh in the upper. Virtually, cinched together with a huge gap -2" the top between both sides of the laces. The foot bed of the Wide on the Moabs didn't fit at all so I went for a Regular on this model. 2. Laces constantly coming undone will drive you nuts. For your sanity double- tie like a first-grader. 3. Very much lacking in cushion in the foot bed. I thought Merrell was above this but found it to be true in the Moab as well so additional funds for new insoles will be forthcoming. It's so disgusting to fork over big bucks for shoes that are not cushioned properly for comfort. Bottom line, would I buy them again? Given I am wearing on concrete and not hiking rocks, yes, but they are far from ideal in terms of comfort . I hope I am wrong about how long the uppers will last before totally losing support ... show more
