These are really Amazing boot for hiking and I meant it, no break-in required. I paired them with Darn Tough calf length full cushion socks and I could literally hike in these boots all day. In fact we just got back from Glacier National Park, the Tetons and Yellowstone and I wore them every day. We did a 12 mile hike the Grinell Glacier with like 1,700 feet of elevation on the hike with many opportunities to slip and fall, but the boots grip amazingly well. I never felt unsure of my steps. Also did the 7 mile hike to hidden lake (there are more than one even more hidden behind it) and many little trail hikes as well eating tons of Huckleberries and Thimbleberries along the way. The boots helped make the trip. I highly recommend these. I believe they have a lifetime warranty as do the socks. Those socks are a must and they can be worn multiple days. They never stink being wool.

I really like these boots and own two pairs, this one and the tactical version. I don't know if people consider them stylish but I like the look. They're not fashion boots but it works for me. Two things to consider: They do run large. I said fits 'as expected' but that's only because I have experience with Merrells and had reviewed their sizing chart. If you compare to major sneaker companies like Nike or Adidas, I'd advise going a half size down or maybe even a full size. I wear an 11 in most Nike shoes and 10.5 wide in Merrell. I think I could wear a 10 wide they'd just be a little more snug but still with room in the toe. As someone with wide feet I really appreciate that they have wide sizing. The other thing is that if you're planning on wearing these for hiking then consider getting the non-waterproof version unless you really need waterproof, because even though these are relatively breathable, they're not as breathable as the ones without the waterproof membrane. If you do your hiking in the summer in hot and dry conditions, you'll want your feet to breathe. I can wear these for hours and feel fine, but if I didn't expect to hike in the rain, if I didn't expect to have to step through standing water, I'd opt for the non waterproof version because the breathability is going to be more important than waterproof quality if that isn't really needed. Side note: I really like the color dark earth and it might be my favorite of all the colors they offer.

I put about 40 miles on these last week over ice (with crampons), rock, gravel, sand, ash, dirt, mud, and rugged old lava flow terrain, and more, and I couldn't be happier. I spent about a day breaking them in before I left, and my son (same boot, also new) didn't try to break them in at all -- both of us marveled at how comfortable they were the whole time. They fit true to size, wide for me and standard for my son. No slips or spills, no leaking, no blisters of chaffing, no loose threads. Over sharp, jagged terrain, they flex just the right amount, with great support and great protection. What a great boot -- super pleased.

These boots are suprisingly light and flexible. I use them for gardening because my stamina need to be much better before hiking becomes possible for me. They're excellent for gardening, because they're stable, water proof, and shrug-off dirt. One area where I thought the boot could be better, is more internal padding and support. My foot feels just a bit loose even with thick socks. I understand that if Merrell did add padding, then without careful adjustments, one could end-up with hot, sweaty feet. Then I would be complaining about hot sweaty feet!

Bought these for a hike up Mount Fuji, these shoes saved my ankle multiple times with the loose volcanic rocks and slippery trails. I wore these every day for 25 days and never once had any foot issues, even my normal arthritis was minimized. These did run a half size small for me, glad I tried them on before ordering

True to size. Very comfortable out of the box. Excellent stability and traction for casual hiking. Previously had Keen Targhee hiking boots and loved them, but glad I gave Merrill Moab boots a try. So far they are great boots for my needs.

My husband has flat feet and has bought A LOT of boots trying to find one that is comfortable. He has bought lots of insoles to try and help. He runs an auto body business and is on his feet all day. He was told these had good arch support and decided to try them. The first couple days he said they were uncomfortable and quit wearing them after a couple hours each day. His others boots got wet and he had to wear these for a full day. After that they became his favorite boots! It takes a little bit to get used to the arch but it was worth it. They aren't very waterproof but that's not a dealbreaker. Just ordered another pair!

Get a full size to 1.5 sizes up from your true size. My true size is somewhere between 9.5-10. Wear a 10 in most boot brands, 10.5 in most shoe brands, and an 11-11.5 in confidence boosting brands like Nike and Adidas. I needed to purchase this hiking boot in an 11 for a proper fit. My feet are long, narrow, with high arches. Once I got a proper fit, these shoes felt great. They're not too heavy and over good protection in rain and shallow streams.
