  • Still a great shoe
Size: 10 Color: Walnut
I use this shoe for any important outdoor work where I need good foot support and durability including hiking, camping, roofing, construction, digging post holes (shovel work), working in my woods, landscaping... The shoes are breathable yet durable, of high-quality construction, and I just beat the hell out of them over the months of serious and continual use. Just bought a new pair after completely destroying my old ones, maybe 3 years of brutal abuse. the soles finally gave out and began disintegrating but not for poor quality materials or workmanship. Sometimes I wish they had a steel toe, but they wouldn't be hikers then. Anyone who complains about these Moab hikers or the cost needs to provide a better, time-tested, condition-brutal alternative. And they won't be able to. I guarantee it. So just buy them. Thank you Merrell. I'm happy to pay the price. Jeff N. Cassopolis, MI ... show more

  • Still the best all around hiking shoe for the price
Size: 11 Color: Walnut
I hike frequently on rugged New England terrain and during the past 10 years Merrill has become my go-to. I'm starting on my 2nd pair of Moab 2 Vents. The first one took seven years of 3-season daily use, on the trail, around the office, and only the last couple years I demoted them to yard work. They are beat up but only just starting to come apart, and still serviceable for short jaunts. Judging from my first walk with the new ones I expect the same longevity, and am glad they haven't messed with the styling much - still good looking and comfy both on the trail and around town. I also can vouch enthusiastically for the Moab 3's which handle my harder climbs with heavier loads, and the waterproof Geomorphs which have served as my main winter boot. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars here is that the material they are now using over the ankle padding (on Moab 3 as well) seems to collect debris more easily and funnels it down into the shoe. This can be an annoyance on gravelly terrain and bushwacks - gaiters may come in handy. ... show more

  • Very happy with comfort and performance.
Size: 10 Color: Walnut
I have a wide foot, might have tried a 9.5 wide but was not available so went with a 10. I was wearing a thin no-show liner sock under the regular sock as this sometimes helps with preventing blisters. I only had time for a 3.5 walk with the dog to break these in before going on a backpacking trip. These were a little hard in the heal area on the concrete but great on a dirt trail. I used these for a last minute backpacking trip to Half Dome in Yosemite. The shoes held up well and had good grip on the dirt and walking along the granite which is the walking surface on parts of the trail. Without a lot of break-in time they were comfortable, gripped well and stayed dry in shallow puddles and going through the Mist Trail with it raining on us for four miles. All in all these performed very well in many categories, I would have expected strengths in some areas and then maybe a few weaknesses in others but I did not see any weaknesses, for me at least, even with very little break in time. ... show more

  • ORDER 1/2 SIZE LARGER than with original Moabs
Size: 12.5 Wide Color: Walnut
Been wearing the original Moabs daily for the past ten-ish years. These Moab 2s are not the same shoe. The best you can do is to order a half size larger than you normally would with Moabs; it's still not the same comfrotable-out-of-the-box feel that I've always had with the previous version, but it will settle in to something similar. I had ordered two pairs thinking that I'd messed it up, or that there was a difference in fit between the HIkers and Ventillators; there's not, they just changed the dang shoe. Why? I don't know what the folks at Merrell were thinking by messing with a shoe that has such a strong following- but they did (I'm assuming it was a cost-cutting measure, although the build quality still feels solid, so far). The back of the shoe (ankle area) doesn't feel quite right anymore, and being a half size too big my feet were floating around for a couple of weeks until they broke in, sort of. In the end, they do feel okay, just not what I've come to expect from the fit of these shoes. Discouraging really. BRING BACK THE ORIGINALS, DANG IT! ... show more

  • Great Quality Shoes, and a Great Bargain at these prices!
Size: 11.5 Wide Color: Granite
These Merrell Moab 2 shoes fit me perfectly (11.5 wide), and that's tough to find. This is my third pair; all three are still in service. First pair, bought 3 years ago, are now looking a bit used, and they are my "Knock around" shoes, but still in great shape. Second pair are my casual, everyday wear, 'cause I still wear jeans most days. The third pair, I bought just because the price/quality is great, and they are stored on the shelf in my closet. Shouldn't need them for quite a few years, but I do not expect they are going to stay as cheap as they are now. ... show more

  • I'm disappointed in them
Size: 13 Color: Walnut
I needed to buy a pair of shoes that were both lighter and easier to get on. My brother had a pair of these and they fit pretty good so I got mine here at Amazon. They look all right, a bit short but I expected that My brother's shoes came with absurdly long laces, mine are almost too short. Brother's laces long, mine headed towards not enough to tie good. They are just enough to get the job done. The shoes appear to be made pretty well although I suspect they wouldn't do very well for outdoors activity. Like all the other rough soled shoes I've seen if you step on some damp dirt check the soles before you go into the house or you'll bring some in. The laces will not stay tied no matter how hard I pull on them ... show more

  • Should hold up
Size: 9 Wide Color: Walnut
Knock around shoe. Mowing the lawn...Rough it ....We'll see how it holds up. Most shoes I wear do not "wear out" , but end up using contact cement when the soles begin to separate. and the uppers begin to fall apart. I have no reason to suspect that these shoes won't make the grade. I wear compression socks because of stasis dermatitis (secondary to venous insufficiency) and wear another pair of socks over the compression hose for cushioning when on my feet all day. Sizing appears to be okay. I ordered 1/2 size larger and wide. ... show more

  • Wrong color and tight fit.
Size: 12 Color: Walnut
These are my third pair these shoes. First of all they are not walnut. These are grey. I have my last pair in walnut to compare. These are the same size as before but fit snug at this point. No longer made in China which might have something to do with the fit. Have not yet decided on return or not.r ... show more
