The width in the toe box is excellent -- a pleasant feature given that Sketchers and others seem to think a narrowing at the toe is what we want. I wear a 10.5 men's shoe. I have numerous other pairs of hiking shoes, boots, and running shoes. These Merrill shoes are a very comfortable shoe, wide in the toe box with moderate arch support. However they are shorter than 3 other brands of shoes that I compared them against by placing them against each other with heels against a flat surface and seeing how they line up. I hike in my local Oregon state park hills about 5 miles 5 days a week. Loose condition trail, some rocky, this time of year some mud and wet conditions in general. This shoe works well for all of what I have thrown at it so far. Note I have not tried this trail yet in dry Summer like conditions, so time will tell about traction in that condition. But so far it's been great and comfortable with no break in required. Not the updated MOAB version 3 with what they say is an improved tread design, but this was less cost and works fine for me. Bought these shoes for my husband for our camping trip. He loves them! We hiked some pretty intense free range mountains that most of the time had no trails that weekend. From loose rocks, steep incline and decline areas, thorns, bushes, jumping from one cliff to another.. lets just say, there was no more for error and these boots did the job. My husband is on his feet on concrete all day 7 days a week. He has neuropathy in his legs and feet from an industrial accident. These are the only shoes that provide him comfort and hold up to his work load. He wears them no matter if it's pouring rain or if he's shoveling snow. These shoes last about a year! I ordered these for my husband to replace the ones he’s had for several years. He didn’t even wear these as both insoles had raised creases in them towards the ball of the foot. There’s no way this would be comfortable. Returned them immediately. Update: I ordered these shoes (again) from a different seller. Glad I did. The second pair was perfect, no creased insoles.     • Sturdy shoe for walking and hiking
For years, I’ve been buying trail running shoes despite the fact I no longer run. After 20 years of playing volleyball, my knees prefer that I walk. 😂 Shoes such as Salomon’s Speedcross 5s fit me great and are super comfortable for walking, but tend to wear out really quickly from my daily 1-hour constitutionals. I’ve only had the Merrell’s a short time, but they feel so much more sturdy and I’m confident they’re going to last me a while with a Vibram sole underlying the whole operation. I've waorn a pair of Merrell's for the last 2 years everyday with no issues. Now I'm I'm replacing them with the same shoe, same size size, same color. It's at least 1/2 size smaller than the size I ordered. Since the last should not change, why is the size get inconsistent?
