  • READ BEFORE YOU BUY - These shoes could ruin your day.
I'm a big fan of the Moab Ventilator. I've used them for years. I have a wide foot so I buy the Wide width and hike hundreds of miles each year in them. If you're reading this you probably know that Merrell has discontinued the "Moab" Ventilator and replaced it with the Moab 2. But don't be fooled, the Moab 2 is a big departure from the Moab. Like I said earlier, I hike hundreds of miles with my shoes. I don't get blisters. My feet and legs feel good afterwards. In short, I have had no problems with the Moab. After hiking in my new Moab 2s, I could barely walk the next day. At the time I had no idea it was the shoes. The doctor diagnosed it as Achilles' tendinitis and prescribed a topical anti inflammatory and six weeks of rest and physical therapy. After clearance from my doctor and the physical therapist, I donned my Moab 2s again for a shopping trip. No hills - just walking the isles. By the time I got home my Achilles' tendon was pounding again. This is when I put 2 & 2 together and realized it was the shoes. I called Merrill and the representative told me that yes, the Moab 2 was designed differently. The heal had been deepened to hold the heal firmer. Apparently no one told them that letting the heal slide deeper into the heal also forces the Achilles back and into the pull tab rim. It all made sense when she told me about the deeper heal. That's exactly what was causing my injury. So, BE WARNED!, the Moab 2 could be hazardous to your health. As an aside, the toe box, the area where the widest part of your foot fits, was widened. I need a wide shoe for my wide feet but now there is so much room that the wide part of my foot slides left and right and actually bangs into the sides of the shoe hard enough to bruise that part of my foot. The representative told me that I should try a regular width shoe next time. Wouldn't that mean that the regular width shoe would now be too wide for someone that normally wears a regular width shoe? I was not happy with her logic. I hope this helps and prevents anyone else from an unnecessary injury. Be well and be safe. ... show more

  • Amazon Wardrobe is a rip-off.
Size: 9 Color: Beluga
I -love- the shoes. Amazon Wardrobe is a whole different thing. I am very unhappy with their program. Amazon Wardrobe is a new program offered through Amazon that allows you to try on clothing before you buy them. I decided to try it as I wanted to try others on as well. Sounds like a -great- idea! Unfortunately, the shoes I decided to keep were billed for $20 more than what they were selling for directly without Amazon Wardrobe. They tout Wardrobe as a try before you buy for free when in actuality you are paying for the service by being charged more for items that you decide to keep. A $20 upcharge is substantial on a $80 purchase. I feel mislead and grossly fleeced. :/ ... show more

  • Not the same quality as before
Size: 8 Color: Walnut
3rd pair of Merrell Moab, except this one was the new MOAB 2. Previous ones lasted 2 years or more before I wore out the sole. The MOAB 2 has not lasted a year and the top part of the shoe is falling apart. Soles are peeling along the edges, stitching has failed in places, rubber on the front is cracking. Far inferior to the previous model. Looking at Salomon or Keen to replace. Don't know why companies take a good product and supposedly improve it but actually cheapen it. There decision to do this have forced me to look else where. ... show more

  • Pleasant Surprise
Size: 13 Color: Walnut
I wear a size 13 in every other shoe and boot so I ordered size 13 in these and they are a perfect fit with thin socks. Even with thicker socks they still feel good... not too tight. I was pleasantly surprised by the good quality rubber molded soles. Vibram is a top name in rubber soles, I have some others I am happy with. Plenty of padding in the tongue and ankle support area. NOTE: One tip I will give for the big guys over 200lbs. - These inserts, like most others, are made of a foam that will press down and go flat under our weight in just a few days (I am 230lbs.), but I found the perfect solution here on Amazon. Order these to go in place of the removable inserts and your feet will feel like you are riding on new tires for many months to come. I have several of these in my shoes and boots and highly recommend them to go with these shoes - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M8O5HLY?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1 ... show more

  • Repeat buyer of this shoe
Size: 10 Color: Walnut
A year ago I bought these shoes and hiked/walked just over 1000 miles (1,040) on mixed surface of asphalt and desert trails. Great stability and support. Will never buy anything but Vibram soles after the amazing ruggedness of the shoes. A previous pair of Salomon shoes were great, also, but the soles only lasted me 5 months. This shoe has made me a big fan of Merrell products. A small additional aspect I really enjoy is the reflective surfaces on the tongue, lace loops and back of the heel. Since I frequently walk after dark, increased visibility is greatly appreciated. ... show more

  • I Recommend Merrell Moab 2 Men's Hiking Shoes
Size: 12 Color: Walnut
This is my second pair of Merrell Moab 2 Hiking Shoes I have purchased. I bought my first pair to use walking a section of the Appalacian Trail and have used them two times on hiking sections of the A.T. plus they have been my go to hiking shoes for my daily walking shoes because they feel so good on my feet. They give great support, fit perfectly, and the best walking/hiking shoes that I have ever owned. That is why I bought my second pair because they are so well made, wear like iron for years, and there is no "breaking in period" because they fit great right out of the box and don't cause any rubbing or blisters. I have NEVER had any blisters or adverse foot problems wearing the Merrell Moab 2 Hiking Shoes. I love them and highly recommend them. ... show more
