These are small sand toys, for making pretend cupcakes. They should be good for a younger child who cannot fill and turn over a larger bucket. They are the usual good Melissa and Doug quality.

Like most of the Melissa and Doug products I've purchased, the quality on this is good. The plastic is thick and durable and brightly colored. I was a little worried about the baking cups breaking at the hinges but that hasn't happened yet though they have been played with heavily. The molds don't work so great and this is actually my kids's least favorite of the three sets we purchased, but the blue net bag that comes with the set is great. We purchased three Melissa & Doug Sunny Patch Seaside sets: the Speck Seahorse Sand Ice Cream Set, the Sidekicks Sand Baking Set, and the Sidekicks Sand Cupcake Set to take on our 3 week vacation to the Pacific Northwest. The kids played with them almost every day at the beach and/or in the bath tub. Great quality. No broken pieces the entire trip or since we've returned home. Lots of creative play options. I was able to nest the ice cream set pieces inside of the baking set bucket, and store all of the smaller pieces from all three sets along with the cupcake pan in the netted carrier that comes with the cupcake set. The end result was that I was able to get all three sets and the hand full of play dishes (plates, cups, utensils) I brought entirely into one bucket and the net carrier. VERY convenient for storage in the car and carrying to/from the beach. If you were to only pick ONE, I would recommend the baking set as it's pieces seemed to be most universally versatile. But the net that comes with this set is nice to have and this set compliments the others well. The sets are a little pricey and probably should be priced at just less than $10, but are way neater than the cheap plastic sand toys you typically see at the store.     • 3 toddlers LOVE this set
These are wonderful sand toys. I was looking for new, fun sand toys for my 3 toddlers. I thought these might be different, but they have proven even better than I expected. I have 3 year old twins and a 2 year old. I showed the 3 year olds how to pack the sand into the mold to make them work and they caught on immediately. My 2 year old isn't as focused on how to make these, she's having fun just filling the cupcake bottoms with sand. The sand cupcakes really are adorable. Each top has a different shape, with cute little accents. My kiddos love the star the most, which has a little face etched in. There is also a turtle, a fish and a crab. We don't use the bottom mold that opens, as ours seem to just fall apart with that one, but that does not detract from this toy at all. Without that part, there are 4 bottoms, 4 tops and the tray. Loads of fun! Trust me, if this one sand toy set can keep 3 toddlers busy for an hour a day, it's a winner. My little ones would be out in the sandbox more if they could! My almost four year old granddaughter loves cupcakes, and the second thing she loves is playing in the water and making sand objects. What could be better than these seaside sand cupcake makers? With Melissa and Doug I am sure that I am getting quality and products that are made just for children. Safe to play with, and most of all fun. We have a big 4th of July family party at my sister's lakeside home. Hours are spent playing in the water, and then hours are spent playing in the sand. These containers and cupcake set are just the perfect thing for all of us. Proud little children make their own cupcakes for all to enjoy!l. The cupcake containers are brilliant colors, orange, blue, yellow and red. There is a blue cupcake tin, a yellow over, and a blue cupcake mold. There is a blue mesh bag that fits all of the cupcake paraphernalia. My granddaughter loved it, we had white, chocolate, strawberry and raspberry cupcakes. Fun was had by all and particularly Gramma! Melissa and Doug deliver again! My 2.5 year old LOVES this beach sand set. Literally gives hours of play. Making cupcakes feeding them to me (Mommy) and of course Baby (A babydoll) and puppy (A plastic dog) who join us every time we go to the beach. It’s actually hard to make the cupcakes that are pictured but I blame the sand for that. It comes with a little icing tube looking thing. My daughter uses that as a kind of shovel. Then it comes with a mesh bag to store it all in. This is definitely a durable and thick set. Not cheap at all will probably lasts years and even if you stepped on some of the stuff I doubt it would break. It’s a great value considering what you get. ... show more
