  • The second collection is a DOWNLOAD CODE ONLY
Platform For Display: Nintendo Switch Edition: Standard
This is a great collection if your a Mega Man X fan, or even for players new to the series. As your getting both collections in one fell swoop, though I would have been happier if both collections were on the same cartridge. That being said, it's still worth it. I guess it's just Capcom cutting corners a bit, as I'm pretty sure they could have put both collections on the same cartridge ... show more

  • Not everything is on cartridge

Love the first 4 games and love having them all in one cartridge but I don't like the fact that the 2nd part of the collection is a digital code.

  • A collection of great games worth getting your hands on.

When I first heard that Mega Man X was going to get a new collection, but that this time it would include X7 and X8, I jumped for joy. Mostly for X8, mind you, because X7 is just the worst of the worst in the whole Mega Man X series. I just never finished it and hope to do so this time around. X 1 through 3 have their regular 16-bit graphics, AWESOME music, and you can alter the filters and screen sizes to your liking. I personally prefer it wide screen, but I am missing out on some sweet wallpapers that surround the edges of the screen if you should choose to play it at its original screen ratio. It looks pretty sweet with the filters too; makes you feel like your's playing the original game cartridges. For X3, however, the prior Mega Man X Collection (which was on the Gamecube/PS2 era, had the Saturn version of X3, which included a sweet intro video and new music, although admittedly, most of the original music is better. There is a small downside, hardly noticeable for those who played the original MMX games on SNES, and is a small input lag. I am guessing Capcom wanted to keep the experience as close to the original as possible. From X4 through 6, that input lag is a thing of the past, the 32-bit graphics play beautifully on the screen, and with the new filters, you can choose to make the game look classic, or a little newer. For some reason I don't understand, the sound effects on this version of the collection are very crisp, something that sounded murky in the original PS and Saturn versions. I have only glanced at X7 and X8 for the time being, and do not expect much in terms of graphical improvement. X7 particularly. It's like that game was just ported there for nostalgia reasons, maybe, but it is clear that even Capcom want nothing more to do with that game. X8, on the other hand, has more detailed textures and brighter colors. Other than that, it feels like the same game. Finally, one of my biggest griefs with this game collection is that, once again, Capcom decided to split the physical version into half physical, half digital. Switch cartridges aren't that small, to my knowledge, and the GBs the collection takes doesn't even add to 16 GBs, so I wonder why do they choose to split games like this. That aside, I recommend this game to anyone looking for fast-paced action and a good challenge. ... Oh, and before I forget, although I have not used Rookie Hunter mode for any of the games, it is clear this option will allow for newcomers to enjoy their Mega Man X experience without the frustrations of constant failures. ... show more

  • a bit of extra details
Platform For Display: Nintendo Switch Edition: Standard
Best of the bunch is X-X4 and X8, X5-X7 are pretty average. As others have mentioned, the game card has X-X4 (the first collecion), and a download code for the second collection (X5-X8). For general overview check other reviews, here's a few details from someone who's played the originals, and my initial impressions of playing a bit of each. While X8 is the best of the second half and more of a return to form to the classics, looks like they patched the infinite money issue. I'm a bit miffed by this actually, I don't have time to grind the metals (and 40k per the extra ... is kind of annoying). I think the game's worse and has less value to me, personally, for removing the shortcut, even, that and being unable to unlock the extra ... with the passcode, that seems to have been taken out, though it worked for one of them (if you translate the ps2 buttons to Switch). I mainly only wanted X8 from the second collection, so I'm bummed that the cheats and the money bug seem to be removed. Means I have to beat the game and grind a fair chunk to actually play the game the way I want to (with mixing and matching with the extra ... ). By that time, I'll have already beaten the game, so I won't have interest / time to rehash through it all over again. Wish they just kept it true to the original emulation, as the bug didn't break the game, it just gave more options / removed the grindiness from it. Minus all that, games seem to play pretty well on the Switch, feels comfortable and natural enough. Some games felt a bit slow (X6, from the bit I tested), assumably that's just because the times have changed, and the games were just slower in general. If you're a newcomer, I'd recommend just getting the first collection digitally, and if you're really like the series, could try for the second. Or could try to get it on a sale. Just know the level/game design of the latter half isn't as good as the original. ... show more
