  • You can read through the weave - Know what you are buying! 8-Ply...
I love these. They are a very LOOSE weave -- very much like a large hole cheese cloth folded 4 times on itself to make 8-ply. You can read through the 8-ply. Know what you are buying. This lets air flow through and is very airy and light. What I use it for: Cleaning my eyes of blepharitis symptoms. I use one gauze sponge and wet my eyes with this saline: Modudose Saline Solution for Inhalation - 100/box(5257 - 5mL Unit Dose) , I also use this saline to cleanse my eyes out by putting about 5 drops in each eye and blink after each drop. After wetting the gauze I wipe my eyes, then use: OCUSOFT LID SCRUB FOAM PLUS Size: 50 ML , a tiny puff of foam onto the damp gauze and cleanse each eye this way. The gauze is pretty rough so it does a good job of getting the dried gunk off the base of the lashes. Then I use the saline to wipe after wards. My eyes feel so fresh and clean. I also use the gauze for cleansing the gunk off of my face, it acts like an exfoliant. After cleansing, I use witch hazel on a gauze to wipe my face. The rough texture of the gauze lifts off the dead skin cells and any traces of soap left behind. The gauze is so thin that you don't use a lot of product--I love it for that and my products last so much longer vs cotton. These are also good for wound cleaning as the rough texture helps lift dead cells away. Remember, these are very thin, airy and light. They are not a "sponge" that you would use to soak up oozing from a wound (unless you used a stack of them). I like them for any wound that needs air to hit it to heal. This is a photo of my laptop screen with the camera looking through the 8-ply gauze out of the package. ***I just opened the gauze sponge to show you what each layer looks like and I count 8-ply. 1st picture is how it comes out of the package looking at computer screen. 2nd picture is 2-ply (gauze folded once). 3rd picture is 4-Ply (gauze folded in half twice). Each edge folds in half to the center of the gauze, so each 4-Ply is on each end, then that gets folded to make the final gauze sponge size of 4-Ply plus 4-Ply folded over makes the final 8-Ply gauze sponge (Picture 4) This is a very, very loose weave of 8-ply gauze. If you want something that is softer and a tight weave, you want the Non-Woven Gauze Sponge: Medline Industries PRM25444 Caring Non-Woven Non-Sterile Gauze Sponge, 4" x 4", 4-Ply (Pack of 2000) ... show more

  • Useless as a sponge. Not 8 Ply.
This is a useless "gauze sponge" . It is not 8 ply and the "woven" part has large gaps in between. You would probably need 10 of these for each application. Not even worth returning. Take a look at the photo, totally worthless.

  • Total fail for my use!
Sorry folks, I did not like these. They literally fall apart in your hands. I would not recommend, nor will I repurchase! I was going to use on my portable high frequency wand as an indirect method. Yeah no... literally fell apart. Total fail for me.

  • Poor quality.
Extremely rough and abrasive. So thin they should not be allowed to call themselves sponges. Save your money, honestly not worth it at all.

  • Very Cheesy!! (no pun intended)
These were a fat waste of money. They don't absorb at all unless you use 5 of them at a time. They are rough and very cheaply made. I don't even want to use them at all. Thinner than the thinest paper towel ever. Don't waste your money. I should have got the Curad or J&J ones, which are normal and thick and soft. ... show more

  • Decent price
Decent price. It’s a package of clean gauze, that can be opened and taken from multiple times (with very clean hands or gloves). The inside gauzes are not individually wrapped, as is noted in the description, so not single use sterile gauze. I keep the package inside a ziplock to help keep it clean in our dusty home town. It is great for any non sterile gauze use. Cleaning wounds that do not need sterile applications, and most household wounds do not. Cleaning pet teeth. This is where the woven part is such a plus. It gets “junk” off pet teeth that can extend time between cleanings . As an aside, if you don’t have a lintless rag, these can be used to clean a mirror. :) ... show more

  • 8 PLY?? NOT THESE!
I CONSTANTLY BUY MEDLINE SUPPLIES, BUT THESE HAVE HAD TO COME FROM A ROTTEN BATCH. THE PAD IS WOVEN SO FAR APART. YOU WOULD HAVE NO PROBLEM SEEING A GRAIN OF SALT THROUGH THEM. NOT ABSORBENT AT ALL. YOU NEED A FEW OF THEM TOGETHER TO GET THE EFFECT YOU GET WITH JUST ONE GAUZE PAD FROM ANOTHER COMPANY. I USUALLY OPEN ONE PAD AND LAY IT OVER MY SKIN BEFORE I USE ROLLED GAUZE AROUND MY LEG. I NEED 6 PADS WITH EACH WRAPPING I HAVE TO DO. I USED 12 PADS TO GET THE JOB DONE OF THESE GAUZE PADS. THEY EVEN FALL APART WHEN YOU OPEN THEM BECAUSE OF THE WEAVE. HAD TO USE MY BOX OF STERILE PADS. THEY WERE MADE CORRECTLY. SO SORRY TO GIVE YOU THIS REVIEW. I HAVE ALWAYS LIKED YOUR PRODUCTS BEFORE. ... show more

  • Ok, but be aware of what you’re buying
If you’re used to buying Medline 4x4 ~sterile~ ~woven~ gauze sponges, these will disappoint you if you compare them side by side. In the attached photo, the top is one of these unfolded, compared to a sterile 4x4 below. The issue seems to be in how the ply is counted. The 8-ply non-sterile 4x4s are 4 “panes” of crisscrossing fabric - in that case each layer of thread counts as a ply. The sterile ones on the other hand are “woven.” In this case it seems that it takes 2 layers of thread to make a ply - thus, there are 12 “panes” and it is referred to as 12-ply. On the one had it’s sort of a scumbag move from Medline. On the other, if you don’t need sterile pads these are cheaper, have less waste since they aren’t in paper packets of two each, and you can double/triple them up when you need something thicker. ... show more
