Waterproof, sterile barrier: protects the I.V. site or wound from external contaminants such as bacteria, viruses, blood and body fluids. Breathable film lets oxygen in and moisture vapor out. Description 2-3/8 inch x 2-3/4 inch (6cm x 7cm) Transparent Film Dressing Frame Style Extended Description Tegaderm Brand transparent dressings can be used to cover and protect catheter sites and wounds, to maintain a moist environment for wound healing, and to secure devices to the skin. In vitro testing shows that the transparent film provides a viral barrier from viruses 27 nm in diameter or larger while the dressing remains intact without leakage. These Tegaderm dressings work very well and are very reliable. They stick nicely to the skin and stay in place without lifting too easily, even with normal movement. I like that they are clear, so you can still see the area underneath without removing it. It also makes it easier to keep an eye on things while keeping it protected. They are thin and flexible, so they feel comfortable and not bulky. At the same time, they do a good job protecting the area from water and dirt. I have needed to use fentanyl patches for almost 16 years A veterinarian friend of mine told me how dangerous fentanyl patches are if you have pets in your home because they can fall off easily. Because they were attached to you they become irresistible to pets, and when they consume them, they die. These transparent films have kept my patches where they need to be and my dog safe.     • The only adhesive that didn't cause a huge rash

I had minor skin surgery last year and received six stitches I had to keep covered for about a month, and then needed to keep the wound covered another 2-3 weeks after the stitches were removed. After only the first day of changing the dressing and bandage, it was clear that the skin area in question was extremely sensitive to adhesive - I developed an itchy, deep red rash with welts anywhere the bandage touched. Over about 2 1/2 weeks, I tried every type of bandage and tape I could find: sensitive skin bandages, gauze with cloth tape, paper tape, island dressings, etc. Every single one caused irritation. The rash was worse than the stitches themselves: I was extremely itchy and in pain whenever I had to wear the bandage, which was all the time. I finally tried Tegaderm at the recommendation of a surgical nurse. I cut a gauze pad to fit over the stitches but so it was slightly smaller than the Tegaderm patch. Then the Tegaderm went over the gauze and stuck to the skin around it. Switching to Tegaderm was life-changing. It did NOT irritate my skin. It felt extremely light: the first couple of days I used it, I kept checking to make sure it was still on because I didn't really feel it. And despite feeling barely-there, it STAYED on. Other bandages would peel up or shift when I was sleeping, but the Tegaderm never moved. It was absolutely perfect. The biggest issue with the Tegaderm is application: it's very sticky, thin, and flexible, and if you're applying it somewhere that you have a hard time reaching (like your back), you might need someone to help with application. Unlike a stiff band-aid, you can just flap it on with one hand - it will fold over on itself way too easily. It definitely requires two hands and full access to get situated correctly. But if you can get it applied it will stay applied, and it's worth the trouble if you have adhesive allergies like I do. ... show more

These are high quality and easy to use. I cover my estrogen patch to make sure it doesn’t fall off when I swim or take a hot bath. No water gets in and I’ve saved money by not wasting expensive medicine! My friend ended up ordering after I told her about these.

    • Useful to cover HRT patches

I use these over my estrogen patches for HRT. I have the twice/weekly patches which are small, and the Tegederm dressings fit over them with room left over. I use them on my lower abdomen, and they mostly stay on with no movement for 2-3 days. By day 3-4, they are not sticking as well so I either need to replace the dressing or go without until it's time to change my patch. I've had some skin minor irritation along the edges of the Tegederm dressing, but I use La Roche Posay Toleriane Dermallergo lotion on the irritated spots after I switch to my new patch, and that usually soothes it. ... show more
