  • Fun in the kitchen, healthy, economical, low-risk investment, quallity. Fun in the kitchen, healthy, economical, low-risk investment, quallity.
Wow, never thought I would be doing this! This meat press is right up my alley. I am impressing my husband: He opened the box and said, “Now, what is this?” which implies I am now opening another useless gadget I do not need. Well, I just got a panini press on Amazon at a great price, which is wonderful for making sandwiches with the lovely deli-style meats you can make from this manageable size. This is a great way to make something you can slice up for gourmet sandwiches. I was inspired by the ‘olive loaf’ that I saw being made in a video, so I thought I would try it. The olive loaf luncheon meat of my youth was so tasty, and mine was better for a few reasons: * Fewer ingredients; healthier food for me. *Tasty ingredients, natural flavors, no added preservatives; eliminate the poison. *Low sodium. Who needed all of that stuff? *Slice as thin as you like, and even use a slicer. *Spice up as you like. *Fresh meat of choice yields fresh-tasting luncheon meat. *Better taste! I do not enjoy prepackaged luncheon meats because they often do not taste like natural meat. *Price: Ground turkey and inexpensive green olives with pimentos are not as expensive as those turkey slices that taste like pure salt and have no interesting spices. *Fun! I have been gradually building my spice/seasoning collection. I have found that a low-sodium BBQ seasoning replaces salt, and I added a bit more pepper, garlic, and onion seasoning. I got a smoky flavor. I made a second one, adding parsley to make it taste extra special. I didn’t miss the pork so much. My husband will not eat pork, but I can add pork seasonings to turkey or chicken. I recommend sautéing some slices in olive oil or butter, and spices if you find your first loaves a bit bland. And you might also try grilling the slices if they are not too dry. I might let my meat sit in juices for a while before refrigerating. This experiment is far from set in stone, as there is more to discover. It took a few days to acquire the ingredients and to relax in the kitchen. That was also therapeutic. The sandwiches are lovely with swiss/honey-mustard/sliced tomatoes, patted dry/a bit of American cheese for the melty-ness. We also enjoyed the sandwiches with pesto/parmesan/mozzarella/American cheese. I also made some quesadillas with a bit of the luncheon meat minced/ pepper jack/cheddar. In addition, I made air-fried olive oil-roasted zucchini wth salt and pepper. I layered that instead of tomato in certain cases. Eggplant will work well too if you like it. My husband has said, Oh no, did you put spinach in there? I said no with pride. I am finding this a nutritious meal idea, and it makes up for having to watch something boiling on the stove. The steps are relatively easy/simple. My husband had a problem with me adding this item to the growing list of dishes to wash. However, he found it easier and less-weildy than cleaning the Insta Pot. I think this is a well-made item that is extremely gift-worthy. Unlike turkey fryers, which were a popular once-a-year goodie for a while in my youth, your loved ones might find time to use this item weekly if they are health-conscious foodie kitchen dwellers. My ideas are ambitious, and I need more time to experiment with seasonings and ingredient combinations, including using cubed rather than ground meats. I was just lazy. The price makes it a low-risk investment and a great value in many ways. I put all parts into a large plastic bag for storage so all is within reach at a moment’s notice, nothing lost. You can find gourmet cookbooks for meat press recipes on Amazon. This appears to be durable and easy to replace. The cooking bags are listed in the ‘Frequently bought together’ section, and they are not frequently returned items. I trust they are the ones to use. They are not cheap, but you get 40 bags. (Be careful with a hot pot.) Enjoy! ... show more

  • Nice Quality, Well Made, Works Well, Budget Friendly
I've tried this with chicken and pork and am more than happy with the results. First, I'm totally able to control the ingredients so things that I'm not interesting in eating aren't in my food. Then there's the fact that I can be creative with flavors. Garlic and oregano chicken? Green curry pork? I turn my nose up at the deli counter, not only do I have some of my favorite flavors in my refrigerator, but the cost is usually about 1/3 of the price at the store. Even better? I cut some of my creations into thicker slices, flour the slices, dip in egg and mayonnaise mix, then dip into panko crumbs and pat them into the egg/mayo so there's a good layer and then pop them into the air fryer. Delicious! The chicken over some spaghetti with a ladle of sauce or the green curry with coconut-lime rice impresses my guests, they love the meals and are more than impressed with the savings. I loaned my press out and my friend bought a pair for their family. Nice! This press is easy to clean. I soak everything, except the lid, right in the body/tube and then use a plastic scrubby to get around the inner spring. Easy. This unit arrives with a thermometer that has a plastic safety tip. Included are 20 plastic liners (I oil the interior instead) and a pair of finger-tips/thumb silicone mitt to lift your jar out of the water bath. The components are well made, the lid goes on easily and securely and the slot for the thermometer keeps the dial upright and in place which makes using the unit even safer. I am very pleased with this meat press. It has already paid for itself. It's a terrific value. ... show more

  • Good for making homemade deli meat at home
I tried this stainless steel meat press to make some homemade deli meat and it worked out pretty well. The built-in thermometer takes the guesswork out of hitting the right internal temperature without drying things out. It holds a decent amount and the press keeps the meat tight and uniform while it cooks. Cleanup was easy since everything is stainless and comes apart without a fight. If you like making your own sandwich meat or pressed ham at home, this makes the process a lot more straightforward. Solid kitchen tool if you do any kind of home curing or deli-style cooking. ... show more

  • Quick and easy way to save money and control what I put into my families body
I've been wanting to try one of these for the longest time, and I'm thrilled to try this one out. What use to be affordable staples have become crazy expensive, but more than that, the ingredients used are becoming sketchy at best. Now I can control exactly what goes into luncheon meat. The press itself is well made, very solid, and definitely feels long lasting. It's much simpler to use than I initially imagined. There's not much to go wrong, you have the main cylinder, the main lid, and then a 'spring lid' that you place on top of the meat and then the spring is pushed down by the main lid. There is a spot to place the thermometer to monitor the proper temperature. It really is super easy to use. The press is made out of 304 stainless steel and cleans up like a breeze. Dishwasher safe, or hand wash it if you choose, there really isn't any hard to reach spots to clean, very efficient. The final product just depends on you. I'm excited to make variations of luncheon meat and experiment with different recipes to make something even more delicious than what I can purchase in the store. Overall, the cost will balance out in the long run and I should start saving money after just a few uses. However, the real benefit is also being able to control what ingredients I'm consuming. I'd say the only thing now is to figure out where to buy the replacement bags, or if they are simply slow cooker liners sized differently. In that case I can definitely find replacements. ... show more
