It said 6 inches thick but after allowing a week for it to fully expand, it is only about 3-4 inches thick.

Very comfortable. I used mine in a pinch when I had extra guests stay and had nowhere for them to sleep. I used this futon mattress on the floor and gave them some extra blankets for extra padding. While it is thin and made for extra padding for an actual futon usually, the people under the age of 20 found it to be fine. One aged 50 make tried it, and said that after a while, it didn’t work for their back. But like I said, I would recommend using this with an actual futon, or for younger kids in a pinch or under another egg shell foal mattress or something. ... show more

I ordered this futon so my son had a temporary place to sleep, while he transitioned to a new location. Living out of boxes is never easy. It came in a huge box, but it wasn't very heavy; I'd guess is was less than 50lbs. After unpacking and rolling it out, it fluffed up real nice and even. It did feel a little hard and lumpy in places. It needed some kneading to break up some of the filler inside. It's more firm than a firm pillow would feel. It does have fairly good support and won't smash to the floor with a person 160 to 180 lbs. It could probably take more weight than that, but I'm not sure. I would suggest adding an extra fluffy mattress topper or a comforter folded on top, if a softer feel is desired. It comes with a zippered mattress protector, since it's not washing machine washable. The futon is easy to remove from the zipper protection and washed. Rolling it up to fit back into the storage sheath takes a little practice. It kind of reminded me of rolling towels in the military for storage in my foot locker. The storage sheath is not very strong either and it comes apart easily at the seams. It ripped the first time I tried to put it back in there. This wasn't the most uncomfortable futon I've ever slept on, but certainly the firmest. Just a note; I prefer a softer pillow top sleeping surface. I would recommend this to person who prefers a firmer sleeping surface. ... show more

As someone who is about 230 pounds this is not very comfortable. But on the other hand if your under 150 or kid, this could be very comfortable. I have asked a friend who has a child if it would be OK for them to sleeping on this for a couple nights and they agreed. when they came back to me they said the child sleep fine and was comfortable. then I asked the same friend who is 150lb if she could sleep on it for a couple nights and she agreed. she also mentioned that it was very comfortable and nice to sleep on. So in conclusion if you’re going to use this to sleep on as a bed just be under 150 not recommended for all the over weight people like me. ... show more

    • Sufficient thickness
Japanese futon is underrated and it will fix your posture and most back pains. Some say it takes a bit to get use to but for me, it felt super natural. It could also because I waited a little too long to start because my lower back was already causing a lot of discomfort. I usually try to lay flat on the floor to relieve the tension and issues. This futon did just that and I felt right at home when laying on it at night. The futon comes in a wrapped plastic like most condensed mattresses and you really should air it out in the sun for a full day at least. I've done it again after a week of sleeping on it and this should a be a regular thing - laying it out and just letting it soak in the sun and warmth so that any moisture can be evaporated and residual smell will be aired out. ... show more
