Description

The MaxxHaul 70422 Aluminum Hitch Receiver Mounted Cargo Carrier measures at a total measurement of 49-1/4" x 22-1/4" x 3-1/4” with the inside basket measuring at 48-1/4” x 21-1/4” x 2”. Its maximum distributed load carrying capacity is 500lbs. This allows one to easily transport numerous types of bulky items that would otherwise take up valuable space within the vehicle or the trunk of the vehicle. The sturdy 22.4lbs lightweight construction of the extruded aluminum basket provides increased durability with the open-floor platform design making it easy to maintain and cleaning a breeze. The under support and hitch shaft is constructed from high-grade steel with a powder coat finish. Rust and corrosion resistant, outside elements pose no match for its longevity of use. The 2” (inside measurement) rails were integrated into the construction to help keep the loaded cargo in place and provide unlimited tie-down location points. This cargo carrier fits all 2” x 2” Class III and IV hitch receivers. Built in reflectors add visibility for increased visual safety during use on and off the road.

  • Poor Workmanship
Style: 70422- Non-Folding ALuminum Cargo Carrier
The cargo carrier is perfect for what I need BUT the workmanship was very poor. The four support arms were not welded onto the 2" square tube so the right side of the aluminim rack sits over 2" lower than the left side. I have ordered another on and hopefully, it will have better workmanship. Also, I ordered this through Prime 2 day delivery. If I selected for them to just replace it, they will not send the replacement one to me as Prime 2 day delivery. It would be delivered in 5 days. So I just did a return and I reordered a new one Prime 2 day delivery. ... show more

  • Nice Rack (Ha Ha)
Style: 70422- Non-Folding ALuminum Cargo Carrier
I like that it's nice and light aluminum. But unfortunately the manufacturer's packaging did not provide enough protection (the aluminum edge was right up against the cardboard, without any Styrofoam or other material in between) so it arrived with a nice deep ding in it. I figured I'd keep it anyway, because hopefully the ding would be on the side of the hitch and no one would see it. But no, of course the ding was on the back side, but at least it was on the bottom of the rail so not terribly visible. And you can't turn it around - it can only go on one way. You do have to assemble the black hitch rail to the aluminum tray and it is a little annoying because the hitch rail makes the whole thing unwieldy. Try to use a table to assemble it, not on the ground like I did. You will need to flip it over a few times. Oh, and you will need an allen wrench for the four long screws. It's a really nice carrier but I knocked one star off for the ding. ... show more

  • Sturdy? Not really. Good for light loads? Yes. Easy to use? Very easy.
Style: 70422- Non-Folding ALuminum Cargo Carrier
This hitch rack was very easy to assemble and install. It is very light weight and well fitted. But I would not put anywhere near 500 pounds in it, as stated in the description. It will not rust, but it is not nearly as sturdy as a heavier steel and more expensive rack. We used it for carrying about 150 pounds of luggage and it worked very well. It will be used on an irregular basis for light loads. If you plan to use yours often and with heavier loads, then you may want to spend more for a sturdier rack, or at least manage your expectations with this one. August 27, 2020 - Just returned from a 5000+ mile trip with this rack. For the price, I conclude that it is exceptional value. It hauled our bags, flawlessly. ... show more

Style: 70422- Non-Folding ALuminum Cargo Carrier
I give it 5 stars -- BUT, the manufacturer should package better. Mine has 2 large dings on it from shipping. I don't really care but it is too bad that you can't get something shipped to your house these days without it being beat to hell. As far as the product quality, it is heavy duty and light weight. Great product. China can produce quality products, and this is one of them. Even survived UPS! Recommend the hitch tightener, works well! ... show more

  • Good value
Style: 70422- Non-Folding ALuminum Cargo Carrier
I got this carrier for a camping trip. It's fairly solid and makes no noise given I'm not maxing out the weight limitation. For what it costs, it does the job well. One problem I have is that my SUV exhaust pipes are at the same level as the carrier as shown in photo. The heat from the exhaust pipe melted parts of my camping tent, so I had to position my cargo to be clear of the pipes. Also because of the low clearance, the carrier scrapes the road when I drive over a dip. I wonder if others have similar issues. As for the fitting, there's a bit of wiggling in the hitch, but I think this is normal because you won't find any hitch product that fits in snug tight. I'm selling mine and would get another carrier with a frame design higher from the ground. ... show more

  • Great Rack But You Will Have To Live With A Dent Or Tear In The Aluminum
Style: 70422- Non-Folding ALuminum Cargo Carrier
The rack itself is great and I bought the bag to put in it. Nice storage, very light to take on and off. It was inexpensive and the rack it self has plastic corners which is a little cheap but don't hurt the functionality. When I got the rack there was a dent on one side in the aluminum where the black receiver shifted back and forth because of poor packaging and a small tear in the aluminum on the other side but covered by one of the stickers. Really didn't hurt the functionality so I decided to live with it. A week later I was thinking this is brand new it shouldn't have a tear in the aluminum so ordered a replacement. The replacement has two tears in the aluminum. I give up and am keeping the original one as I believe everyone will have some damage. ... show more

  • Does the job I wanted it to do
Style: 70422- Non-Folding ALuminum Cargo Carrier
I occasionally have to transport crates of pheasants for short distances, and those nasty birds poop about every ten seconds. I got real tired of cleaning that out of the back of my pickup, so I started investigating external cargo carriers. I wanted one that was light in weight, since I install it and remove it frequently. Didn't want to wrestle a heavier carrier. I also did not want a 60-inch-wide carrier, as that was too unwieldy to carry in the back of my truck when not in use. And, I didn't want to spend a ton of money. The MaxxHaul is rated at 500 pounds capacity, but I don't know that I would load anywhere near that amount of weight on it. I was more interested in the external aspect of the carrier (see "poop," above) than in how much weight it would carry--I rarely put more than 50 pounds on it. I carry a few bungee cords of varying lengths to secure the bird crates and I can always find a place to clip the cords on the MaxxHaul. Yes, like other reviewers have pointed out, the plastic corners are a little cheesy, but I'm not putting this carrier through a great deal of stress. If you're looking for more capacity or a more rugged unit, then you might want to consider a different, more substantial carrier. That's not what I needed, and I didn't want to pay four or five times as much as the aluminum MaxxHaul. Thus, for the value and utility received for my purposes, and no more bird poop in my pickup, five stars. ... show more
