This bunk bed took my husband and I a few hours to put together. We had one small hiccup where one of the metal bar mounts did not have the holes drilled. Luckily my husband has a drill press and was able to drill the holes needed. Bed was packaged great with lots of padding to make sure the frame wouldn't get damaged during shipping. A friend and I assembled the Max and Lily double bunk and two triple bunks, all of which are identical in their part numbers and assembly process. The double bunk was top quality and easy to assemble, but the triples were not nearly the same quality, although the bolts and assembly were still the same. They had been out of stock so the triples I purchased are the newer version and they have clearly cut some corners in the manufacturing process. The new beds have very poor paint quality with lots of flaws, the slats are made out of plywood instead of a single piece of wood, one of the holes for the metal rods isn't straight (it was wrong on both triples and had to be hammered in), and the steel bar is cheaper with corners that are sharper than the original version. The pilot holes for the brackets holding the steel bar are in the wrong place (on both triples), so be sure to use the bottom holes, not the top holes, or else the steel bar will be too high to install the slats. The directions are easy to follow if you pay close attention to detail. However, we assembled them in a different order so that we weren't trying to lift a completed bed into the air while fitting the legs onto the metal rods that connect it to the lower bunk. That would have taken 4 people. Instead, we assembled each bed in its place, on top of the lower bunks. We started by assembling all of the headboards/footboards. Each bunk is slightly different, so be sure to keep the pairs together. Then we connected the bottom bunk head and foot boards with the 2 long boards that hold the slats. We pushed the bolts in all the way to help hold up the long boards, then pulled the bolts out one at a time to screw them into the nut, using an impact driver. We fully tightened every bolt at each step. We stopped there, skipped some pages, and inserted the 5" metal rods into the tops of the legs, and put the next bunk's head and foot boards on those metal rods, on top of the bottom bunk. Then we attached both back guard rails at the same time by first hammering the dowels into the head/footboards with a rubber mallet and then guiding the holes in the ends of the boards onto the dowels sticking out. Then we attached the boards that hold up the slats, again pushing in all of the bolts to help hold it in place while we screwed the bolts into the nuts. We stopped there, inserted the metal rods on top of the legs, and put on the top two head and foot boards. Attached the back guard rails, then the 2 long boards that hold up the slats. Then we attached the two metal brackets, using the bottom pilot holes, not the top holes, and attached the steel bars on each of the top bunks. Then the slats. Then the front guard rails. And finally the ladders. The double bunk took us 5 hours because we took our time to fully understand the directions and to sort all of the nuts and bolts into different bowls. The first triple took us 3.5 hrs. The 2nd triple took only 2.5 hrs. I highly recommend using an impact driver. The beds are sturdy and beautiful, if you don't look too closely at the poor paint job on the two triples. I bought 6' foam pipe covers and cut them in half lengthwise and duct taped them to the underside of the steel bars to keep the children from bumping their heads. I paid more for the Max and Lily bunk mattresses and glad I did--they are high quality and a perfect fit. Can't wait for my grandkids to come visit! ... show more

The slats are too far apart - had to purchase a bunkie board so that the mattress doesn’t wave/slip through. It’s low and compact and cannot be separated into two twin beds - let’s hope for the best! P.S. Price wasn’t the issue, but… value for amount paid is.

I absolutely love this bed. I bought this bed for my kids when my daughter outgrew her crib. I love that the bottom bed is on the floor and the bunk bed itself is less than 5ft tall. I most certainly have never written a review this long but, I felt I needed to save people some time and frustration. The bed came nicely packaged (although the poor UPS driver who carried it in looked like he was going to keel over-the package was very heavy). I organized/separated all the screws and pieces and started to put it together by myself. I found it easier to put all the numbered pieces to the inside. I did need another person to help me connect the head and foot of the bed. All was going well until, I tried to connect the metal stabilizing bar that braces the top bunk. Somehow the tough rubber that caps both the top and bottom of this bar was also obstructing the holes where you needed to put screw through. Because the rubber was so tough, I was unable to just jam a screwdriver in it to clear the hole. I finally had to get my drill. That did the trick and the holes were then clear to continue the construction of the bed. I would say it took me several hours to put this bed together but several weeks before it was ready to sleep on. I would heartedly agree with most, that the instructions are not the best. They could have been clearer with words not just pictures. In my excitement, I put the bed together and then thought the slats were too far apart (1st photo)!!! I went to furniture stores and looked at other bunks that did not require Bunkie boards (all the slats were much closer together than this bed). More work for me!!! I decided to purchase additional bed slats through Amazon. *Classic Brands Xtreme Heavy-Duty Solid Wood Bed Support Slats Bunkie Board, Twin* ($59.00). I disconnected all the slats which I had installed and reconfigured. I took all the slats they sent with the bed (the ones meant for the top and bottom bed) and put them all on the top bed (you have to cut the cloth pieces that connect the slats (the slats originally meant for the bottom bed) and place them in between the slats (meant for the top bed) that are already connected. The additional slats I purchased, I placed on the bottom bed. The wood slats from Classic Brand only had pre-hold drills in the first and last slats but the mattress is not going anywhere on the bottom bed even with the rest of individual slats not being screwed in (3rd photo). You would most likely have to drill your own holes and screw all of them into the bed if you used these on the top bunk. On the bottom though, the WORKED GREAT! My biggest issue was my search for twin mattresses. BEWARE!!! I went to at least 8 different mattress and furniture store. There are no standard twin mattresses anymore (39x75). I took my measuring tape with me to each store and measured each twin mattress. No two were the same size and none of them were 39x75!! Who would have guessed and what is up with that!!! I broke down and bought memory foam mattresses through Amazon (although I was truly uncomfortable about purchasing a mattress which I could not try out first). These types of mattresses are the only ones that you will find that are 39X75 inches (and you do need that size for these beds). I purchased Jingwei Twin Mattress, 8-inch gel infused memory foam in a box. I could not be happier (2nd photo)! You can put the entire bed together with the hex wrenches they supply, a Phillip’s screwdriver and a mallet. No power tools required for assembly. It is very sturdy and with the extra slats I added, it is PERFECT. My granddaughters 7 and 3 love it!!!! The only reason I did not give it a 5 was the following: (1) The instructions need to be clearer. (2) I should not have had any issues with the metal stabilizing bar-which I had *** In my opinion, the slats were not close enough together to provide adequate support or safety. The manufacturer should include more slats even if that increases the cost of the bed. It would have saved a me a lot of time and frustration if the correct number of slats were included and someone had warned me about standard size twin inter spring mattresses*** ... show more
