These are premium Maui Jim sun glasses. Designed in Hawaii where they know sun and surf intimately. These Puakea shades have a timeless look and are awesome for casual wear or when suited up. I would say they suit men slightly better because of the rectangular shape... my wife initially got them for herself but they look better on me and usually sunglasses always look better on her! So I was in luck to get this awesome pair. The packaging, case, frames and lens are high quality and has a high end look and feel. The color of the frame and lens were the matte brown and bronze and it looks really sharp. I think the other color schemes also look cool and it kind of changes the style/vibe quite a bit. I think the bronze was a perfect blend of casual and formal at the same time. They are ultimately light weight, comfortable and protect well from strong sun quite easily despite the lighter lens tint. Your eyes will be visible if someone looks closely but I thought they were dark enough to allow for some 'privacy'. The dark shades are needed if you don't want anyone to see your eyes... One cool feature that was super important to me was the fact that this pair has adjustable nose pad arms vs just a plastic mold. Glasses do not sit well on my face (ie they are crooked) if I can not adjust them. So that really helped sell me on these... This pair is not suited for sports and the like also I am convinced that the brand's emphasis on quality and style justifies it's price point. Highly recommended if you are shopping for a pair of shades to protect your eyes while out and about and driving etc. and look sharp at the same time! ... show more

For some reason, Maui Jim makes it next to impossible to know if you're buying sunglasses with plastic or glass lenses. They have a dozen made-up marketing terms to make you think plastic is glass. These, however, have actual glass lenses. Not plastic renamed as glass. Not plastic that's glass-like or even just glassy. These have glass lenses made out of actual glass. Like a needle in their marketing haystack, I was lucky to find these glass glasses with real-life non-plastic glass lenses. ... show more

I've had Maui Jim sunglasses before and I love them to death. The Puakea sunglasses runs in a slightly different category from my previous set. The first thing I noticed when I swapped to the Puakea is the minimal amount of tinting. From a camera perspective you might see a half a stop reduction of incoming light. The polarization really takes effect when you're driving or trying to look at a computer screen. What takes getting used to is the color rendering. Everything is a little bit more warm and orange when wearing the Puakea with Hawaiian tint. I drove with them for an hour and took them off when the sun came down and my eyes turned the whole world teal for a minute or two. The case comes in the box completely flat. I almost thought it wasn't a case until I unfolded it. It protects the equipment well when placed into a cramped bag. It uses a magnet to keep shut. ... show more
