I have had the mason pearson brush for about 2 years now and I absolutely love the mix of boar and nylon in the brush! It holds onto my fine-medium hair beautifully and pulls down any scalp oil at my crown into my ends. I use this on day 1-3 hair only. If I can make it to day 3-4 hair or i use scalp oil I use an inexpesnive boar only brush. The mason pearson brush has rubber on the base that can detiorate over time with xposure to some oils and products. I do baby this brush. I clean it out of any hair every use. I sue the brush cleaning tool about 1x a week and I give the brush a full water and mild soap cleaning 1x every 2 months- being very veyr carful not to get any water into the hole and then letting the brush dry fully. Yes this brush is expensive. Is it worth it? Yes, for me it is worth it. I lose much less hair now with regular use and my har is absolutely looking and feeling more healthy over these 2 years. This feels so good on my scalp and it really pulls down the oils into my medium-long hair mids and ends.

I love this brush. I have very thick, long hair. It is ALWAYS tangled, wet or dry. Before this brush, I just could not keep up with it. Combing my hair was always a painful and time consuming ordeal. With this brush however, my hair is painlessly untangled very quickly. I was hesitant about combing out my wet hair, thinking that like everything else I've tried, it wouldn't work. But it did. Amazingly. What used to take 15 minutes (and a bucket of tears sometimes), now takes less than two and is a downright PLEASURE. I brush my hair twice a day, every day now and I've noticed an improvement in the look and feel of my hair. I was really hurting with the cost, but when you have hair like this, it is practically a necessity. I would've paid that much just to use it once, that's how pleasant it was. My usually cost conscious mother, after watching my brush my hair said, "Where was this 20 years ago when I was having to fight to get a comb through your hair?" and made no comment about the cost. No more tears, no more yanking hair out of my head just to get through a nasty knot. My hair is healthier because I no longer have to fight it, and I am so much happier. 3 MONTH UPDATE: I still LOVE this brush. I had gotten my hair cut right after getting this brush and it has kept my hair healthy and soft and has really stretched the effects of a new hair cut. 8 MONTH UPDATE: Still in love. Still use it every day. I carry it in my purse even! It's really durable too- I literally toss it in my purse without any protection and the only thing I've noticed is that the gold label is starting to wear off slowly. I've noticed that it traps lint in between the bristles sometimes, but nothing that can't be solved by running the included cleaning brush through it a couple times. It's still as amazing and wonderful as the day I bought it! I never review items, much less update my reviews, but $160 is A LOT to spend on a plastic hairbrush so I want everyone to know it is worth it.

I purchased the Mason Pearson Handy Mixed Dark Ruby Bristle brush shipped and sold by Amazon. I had previously been using the same $5 drugstore hair brush for about 6 years. I was in the market for a new brush, and my hairdresser had sworn by Mason Pearson. I was really skeptical about the price--a brush is a brush, right? This is the lamborghini of hairbrushes. Considering how much I spend on shampoo, conditioner, products, hair cuts, and color in a given year, this brush is easily worth the investment. It's really gentle on my breakage-prone hair, and leaves my hair (long, straight, usually tangly) looking soft, smooth, and styled all day long. In light of all the bad press Amazon has received for mixing up fake and authentic products, I was concerned about the possibility of purchasing a fake. I purchased this brush for the full price, and wanted to get the real thing. As far as I can tell, it's the real deal. The handle looks black, but is dark ruby red when I hold it up to the light. It's the right size, and there is a hole at the top of the brush opposite the handle. The words on the handle are etched in gold-blocked lettering. The packaging was exactly as expected.

worth the money- take care of brush following directions and you can expect this brush to last 10 plus years. have been using twice daily with 100 strokes and my hair never looked better! less hair fallout, thicker, and shine in incredible!

I realized today I have had mine since 2012!!! 12 years and it STILL seem like new to me and is the BEST brush I have EVER owned! I looked on line out of curiosity ….i truly feel this is a brush you could splurge on for yourself and your hair health … and will last a lifetime!!! I have thin hair… but my hairdresser always says my hair looks healthy! At age 66… I still brush 100 times at night with it! It makes a difference! I LOVE this brush!!

I have purchased three of these: one for me, One for travel, one for a teen granddaughter. We call these “the magic hair brush”. This is gentle on 70 year old head of hair and somehow seems to add volume while massaging my scalp. Clean as instructed. Do not use on wet hair.

I was SO reluctant to spend $100 for a hair brush. I consider I take decent care of my hair and buy quality products, I'm in my mid thirties, bleach/dye it on the regular schedule, and use hot tools on it a few times a week to style it. I avoid products where any primary ingredient is alcohol, try to be on schedule with my hair cuts, and wash my hair every other day (or three days) if I can extend it. But sometimes I feel dry shampoo products weigh down my roots, and don't "comb through" my hair enough. And then I used the Mason Pearson brush... WOW. 1) I've never had the natural oils from my roots "brush down" into the rest of my hair so easily and help "spread the grease"//make 3rd day hair look less greasy. I can use less dry shampoo, and then when I brush it through my hair, it gives a much more distributed consistency and appeal than ever before 2) I have wavy thick hair, falls past my shoulder blades, (as mentioned, bleached, hot tools, etc). It gets knotty after a day of running around the city and because of curls, on occasion I'll get aggressive knots in a bottom layer (feels like a dreadlock forming.) I used to have to pull and pull and tug my entire head in brushing these knots out to be left with a clump in one hand, and a pulled straight hair remaining. Now with the Mason Pearson, somehow with a few strokes, it gets the knot out, keeps curls or wave in my hair. This brush has managed to help me extend my hair between washings, distribute the natural oil of my hair more evenly, and extend my styling during this time. All without being too aggressive while still brushing out knots and tangles. I'll be diligent to take proper care of this brush, but also never not have it on me!

Never buy any other brush. Top notch quality. Had first one for 32 years. Left it in a hotel somewhere, was bereft. Absolutely worth every penny. And it feels divine on your scalp. They truly last a lifetime.
