I purchased this handle specifically to make a small joiners mallet for furniture building. A word of caution - this is a much smaller handle than it appears on the website. The neck is shaped very slender and would probably crack if I got too aggressive swinging it. But it’ll serve it’s purpose well as a “light duty” mallet in my shop. ... show more

I had purchased a set of Martin hammers and dollies a while back; nice tools but one of the hammer handles was poorly finished with voids and splinters. It shouldn't have passed quality control at the factory but I needed the tool and just filed and sanded the handle so that it wouldn't hurt my hand. I was happy to find this replacement handle available...but the one I received was also poorly finished. Well, perhaps "finish" is the wrong word. It was just gnarly with grain that would splinter off into my hand with use. Can't blame the tree--hickory is like that, but Martin really should catch these and discard them before they leave the factory. It's an unwelcome blemish on an otherwise excellent quality line of body working tools. The new handle is a bit better than the original, but will need some Bondo or wood filler and sanding before I fit it to my hammer. ... show more

The quality looks great but the diameter is way too small for my 8 ounce ball peen head. I wish they had posted dimensions, but I'll probably keep it in case I can use it with some other hammer/tool down the road. I'm not willing to cut it short to use the fatter part of the handle, not for the 8 ounce head, so I'll have to order another brand or just go local. I know hammer heads vary a lot but you'd think they'd err on the side of too much material (which can always be removed) vs. too little material (which makes the handle useless for my application). Still 3 stars because the wood quality and grain orientation are excellent, so I can't argue with the quality. ... show more

Bought 2 handles - they look and feel nice. Only problem is they are too small for the hammer head opening. My husband had to cut about 1-3/16 inches off the top so that he could use the wider section of the hammer to get a snug fit. Description says "all body hammers" but these did not fit his or his friend's body hammer heads. Glad he was able to modify it - seems to be okay...so far. ... show more
