  • A keeper for sure - great group game.
I'm not a lifelong gamer - the Wii is the first gaming system I've ever owned and I have a 6 year old and a 9 year old son. So I don't know about the long history of Mario games - I've certainly heard of Mario, but the Mario franchise is new to me. So I was a little nervous buying into the game - would I have to know all sorts of back story to play it? No, not a bit. The game format is simple. Up to four players (living or computer) can play a board game in which you roll dice (the Wii remote), move around a board and play little 1 minute mini games to earn prizes. The goal is usually to collect Stars but how you do that changes from game to game. Games can last for 10-50 turns (a typical 10 turn game is about 30 minutes), and players can be handicapped (so I can let the kids start out with two extra stars and then play as well as I want to, as I try to beat them). The mini games are pretty fun - everyone has their favorites and everyone has games that they hate. The mini games get picked at random, so you never know what you'll get. One thing I love is that you can practice a game before you play it for real. So when friends come over, they have a chance to see how the game is played before jumping in and getting their butts kicked by my kids (who have played many times). It's a great leveling field. The games are also designed to have a fair bit of randomness in them (a few of the games are completely luck). While there's skill, you can still see that luck plays a role and when you've got a 40-year old vs. a 6-year old that's a really good thing. The game boards feature different game goals and scenes. The boys like the variety: ghosts in a spooky house, dolphins on the beachside, a space station. And you can make the computer players as smart or as dumb as you want, so there's a lot of room to create a game that everyone will enjoy. Also, while it's really great as a group game you can play alone - my 6 year old likes to practice by himself and will give himself a smart computer partner so that he can kick butt. We've really enjoyed it and I've purchased it as a gift, too. I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again - it's a keeper. ... show more

  • 10/10 Wii Game
This is so fun with friends and family you get to do a lot of party and mini games and just have a blast competing against each other to become the best player at the end of it all with the most stars I definitely love this version more than the new switch version

  • Works like a charm...
Item came in great condition, new and sealed. However, cover image on listing didn’t match product received. Item received was labeled as Arab/Singapore regions. My concern was that many reviews stated that this copy wouldn’t or didn’t work on US Wii consoles. I began the return process but curiosity got the better of me and I opened it and gave it a try. Glad I did. Works just fine! This replaced an old original US release I had once. Everything looks and performs perfectly so I am thrilled! Great product and reasonable price point. ... show more

  • Disk was unplayable
When I inserted the disk it refused to read it and said 'invalid disk'. I ejected and looked at the back of the disk and it was scratched up really bad. To the point where there was a chunk of the plastic or glass missing!! I just hope it didn't damage my wii. Also the disk was a generic dvd/cd with no decal/artwork. Seemed sketchy to me, but take that as you will. ... show more

  • Groovy keen, jelly beans!
We played this game back in the day on my Nintendo 64. It was okay then, kind of weird and hard to play, but still fun. The new Mario Party 8 for the Wii is awesome! It is an amazing improvement from the first Mario Party games (I haven't had a chance to play Mario Party on any other system). Anyway, we played it at my friend's house a few times and were hooked! We already have a Wii, so we just ended up buying our own copy when we spotted it for a good price. It's nice, cuz you can play it by yourself, or with a bunch of people. It's fairly easy but can be made to be a little more difficult if you like it that way. For kids, adults, whoever, this is a definitely good idea and well worth it! :D ... show more

  • It's no N64 .. but still fun !
I wanted to get my son a Mario Party game since that was one that I played my entire childhood. I still remember playing on the Nintendo 64 with my cousins and having hand cramps from playing so long and so hard. This .. not so much of being the same. I really enjoyed the game and the variety of games on the verses challenges but there are a couple things I would change. The main change I would make is to the mini game set that you play when you land on your solo game challenge. Every time I have landed on that space it is always between the same 3 games .. and that gets kind of boring. I'm not sure if it is just me and maybe there is a setting that I haven't changed so I'm still working on it. But if it isn't something that I can change and I'm stuck with only 3 games .. it will really stink. My son really enjoys the game and its a little more intense because you have to more your hands, body, etc. So needless to say, we have spent many, many nights playing Mario Party together. He will unfortunately never know how it feels to have a slight burn in the middle of his hand from moving a N64 joystick around to win .. but we definitely enjoy our time playing with one another. This product was a personal purchase for myself at the normal retail price. I am reviewing it solely because I want to share my experience with other potential customers. I have received no compensation for my review nor do I have any relationship with the seller or manufacturer of this product. ... show more

  • Hours of family fun!
This is the first Mario Party game I have ever owned or played. My kids are getting to the age where they are good at these games so I figured I'd pick one up. I did some research and heard that the newer ones weren't as good as the originals. I am no expert on these, but I do know that this is good for HOURS of fun! Me and my son (8 years) play it, and give my daughter (4 years) a controller, and she doesn't realize she's not actually playing. Feels kinda mean, but she loves it anyways. So, if you are new to Mario Party, I can speak from experience that this is a great one to get started on! ... show more
