  • A Simple yet excellent idea!
I realize that this hook is intended for boating, and I can very well appreciate that fact. I very seldom get to spend much time fishing anymore, yet on the seldom occasions that I get the opportunity, I would see this as an extra hand, so to speak. As such, it would be most useful in negotiating ropes and anchors and such. I actually have some alternative ideas for this excellent hook. I have several tall old trees that have a number of dead branches up about 20 ft high. The tree is much taller than that 20' mark, and is otherwise healthy, with the exception of those dead eyesore branches. I have an excellent threaded sturdy extension pole, and am planning to screw this hook on and I am planning to exert some minimal pressure upon those branches to simply break them off. At this point, every time we have a wind over 10 mph, I end up picking up dozens of branches of various kinds. These branches are entirely dried out and are very brittle to the touch. Just a very slight bit of pressure will definitely break many or even most of these branches that are an eyesore, and as I mentioned compel me to pick up armfuls of branches every time, I am getting ready to mow. This hook will absolutely excel at this task. I have already tried this briefly (it is currently below zero temp) since I had no desire to stand in knee-deep snow midwinter and do this, but I wanted to simply ascertain whether my idea would work as I theorized it would. I don't think that I actually exerted more than 5 lbs of pressure and the branch I was pushing on gently, immediately broke and fell resulting in a limb about 12' falling immediately. So, as strange as it may seem, this plan seems to have merit. I will not be tackling it until Summer, when the weather is more cooperative. Another matter that I will undertake is with regard to being able to reach up to loop a rope around some branches that are overhanging the fence in my backyard. Last winter I had a limb fall and literally smash my fence. I had to wait 4 months to get the replacement parts. I want to preempt that potential as there are still limbs overhanging the fence in several places, so reaching up with a rope will enable me to exert pressure upon some overhanging branches. With pressure thus exerted upon the limb(s) I will be able to control the direction of their fall. Unlike the aforementioned, these limbs are not dead or dying, but I want to preemptively remove these before more trouble ensues. As off label as my intention is for this hook, I am excited about the potential it holds, as using it in this manner will definitely be a wonderful aid to me. While I have no intention of putting much pressure on the hook, as I will not need to, it does seem to be very well made and looks to be quite durable. I would most definitely recommend this hook for its prescribed use, and for your own off-label type uses as I believe its potential is only limited by your own imagination. This seems like an excellent idea and has tremendous potential to my mind! I would not hesitate to recommend this versatile hook for many diverse uses. Highly recommended! ... show more

  • very good grabber
I've been a boat enthusiast for close to 50 years now and have used many different boat hooks and most of them have been made with plastic tips which don't really do a good job of grabbing dock poles when coming back to the boat ramp. This is the first all metal one I've ever used, and it also turns out to be the best one I've ever had. The points are long enough to grab the dock poles and hold on very well. It's made of stainless steel and is very durable making it a very good value for the money. However, the best thing about it is that it functions so well. It's very good at pushing on the dock as well as pulling your boat up to it without slipping like the plastic ones do. It actually fit my existing expansion pole perfectly making so I didn't have to purchase a new pole to use it with. ... show more

  • Beautiful Finish. Set Screw Secures it on the Pole. Rubber Tip Pops Off.
I classify this boat hook head as true boat jewelry. The nicely cast 316 Stainless Steel has a beautiful jewelry level finish. I appreciate the set screw that prevents the hook from coming unscrewed from the threaded pole I am using. No matter how tightly you screw on any 3/4 inch threaded broom pole attachment, they always work loose as you are using it. A set screw is essential to keep your attachment away from Davy Jones Locker. The only problem I have experienced with this hook is that the rubber tip has fallen off a few times. I haven't lost it yet, and I'm happy that the hook comes with a spare tip in case I do. I think I might add some glue to ensure the tip stays put. ... show more

  • A Must-Have for Any Serious Boater even if im using for different function
I like this marine hook - yes ive owned boats but i needed this solid hook for snagging fallen tree limbs that stick in tree. The stainless steel construction is impressive - this thing feels like it could survive most anything, and the polished chrome finish isn't just for looks (though it does look sharp). The rubber tips can be used to push on delicate surfaces without damaging surface. What really sets this hook apart is how versatile it is. I've used it for everything from grabbing dock lines to retrieving items that have fallen overboard, and the 1000-pound force rating isn't just marketing hype - this hook means business. The fact that it fits standard extension poles is super convenient, as I can easily adjust the length depending on what I'm doing. I could have used a heavy duty hook like this when we had our boat at the marina or docked at water side restaurants butour boating days have ended movingon to RV Camping. ... show more

  • Beyond boating, a must-have for household tasks, grabbing attic ladder’s rope, tree grooming+.
Very strong and well-made indestructible marine handle. The description says that it’s forge to withstand over 1000 lbs. of force in all directions and I believe it! I purchased this to have an easier time pulling the boat into the dock and securing the boat more quickly. Having had many an item, especially hats belonging to guests, blow off into the water, I now don’t have to jump in and fetch. I like the cleat that can lift up marine rope and more. I like that this marine handle fits standard 3/4" acme-threaded tools and extension poles. I’m thinking I can use it for holding onto poles for high-reaching painting or knock down dead tree limbs. Very impressed that this handle withstands greater than thousand pound, marine-grade force; its strength and versatility is unmatched! Beyond boating, it’s a great must-have for indoor and outdoor household tasks, grabbing attic ladder’s rope, tree grooming, yard-work, and more. It disconnects and connects to various handles easily. Its clean, smooth and perfectly sized to store for easy access. The rubber tips are strong. It actually comes with an extra rubber tip. This is the perfect gift to make your life or someone’s life easier and I most highly recommend! ... show more
