  • 5 star
First off the product was shipped right away and got within 24hours of purchase. I bought this rack for myself and my daughter. Was pretty easy putting together. Just follow each step and look at the pictures. It took several hours but wasn’t hard. So far we love this machine. The cables don’t glide super well but don’t see an issue at the moment. Could possibly grease them. Everything functions as should. This beats having to go to the gym. ... show more

  • It's not easy to assemble do not lose any bolts and nuts cuz it does not bring extra
The leg extension and leg curl is very awkward I am still not used to it I think it could have been designed better just my opinion I would give that a one-star or a zero just saying

  • Excellent piece of equipment
Very happy with this machine. Took a few hours to put together but not too bad. Instead of using an adjustable wrench and the Allen wrenches that come with it, I used a socket wrench. I’m sure that saved some time. Working out with it has been great! Very smooth pulley system. I spray some silicone spray on the tube where the weights go and it keeps it smooth. Well built! ... show more

  • Fantastic value
The entire machine/bench took seven hours to assemble by myself. The directions were straightforward, and even the pulley system wasn’t overly difficult to assemble. I used white lithium grease on the pulleys and weight stack post, and the weights provide the appropriate amount of resistance when lifting and lowering the weight. I enjoy the safety of the smith machine when lifting by myself; it’s nice knowing you can rotate the bar forward when struggling for the last rep. When using the full 300lbs the machine does feel less stable, but I have no doubt it is still safe. Excellent home gym for the average person trying to stay in shape. ... show more

  • Missing parts, poor design
The fact the machine arrived with three missing parts was not a good sign. The parts are also not labeled so assembly is a challenge. The Smith machine is decent although I'm very concerned about the sturdiness of the supports that hold the Smith bar. They're made of hollow metal instead of solid metal pieces. The amount of plastic in this thing is also very worrisome. I don't see it holding up to continued use. The worst part of this machine is the sliding post that holds the weights. The amount of friction it creates effectively makes the machine worthless in my opinion. I still don't get how a square bar can be used as a sliding mechanism. My Marcy 944 is far better than this machine as far as the pulley action is concerned. ... show more

  • wouldn't recommend to beginners or pros. suffers *badly* on eccentric reps even with lube
I use the "Marcy 150-lb Multifunctional Home Gym Station" for my chest flys, bicep curls, tricep extensions, and back strength training (via seated wide pulls). This product in this review is the "Marcy Smith Machine - SM-4008" model. For the SM-4008 gym, I use it for doing cable crunches and the 'smith machine' for doing military presses upwards, though at 5 feet, 4 inches, I have to bend my knees or else my military press has the Smith Machine bar hit the top of the gym cage. The SM-4008 has plenty of places to hold weights. The sheer number of pulleys on the SM-4008 appear to be one factor that causes a 'delayed' affect with the resistance of the weights; when you try to do chest flys with the cables at the top, you will notice the eccentric(negative rep) part of your exercise gives almost no resistance at all..... that alone would make me not buy this gym again. Pay attention to the pictures of the gym; there is a vertical shaft that the weights go up and down and tons of pulleys between you and that shaft. The cheaper model gym I mentioned at the beginning of my review has far fewer pulleys and gives awesome resistance when you are in your 'negative' part of your exercise reps. I use a separate $300 cage that I got from Dicks Sporting goods along with a starter barbell + plate set they had for pretty cheap. For my benchpresses, I use the free weight and cage i got from there...and I do my hanging crunches from it as well. The SM-4008 had a arm that was missing threads that the manufacturer said should be sent to me in about a month. Manufacturing problems are understandable for the price. The 2 stars off are for the lack of eccentric pull on the cable system. I used lubricant spray that a former fitness trainer I came across at Lowes suggested to me; that barely helped. It's the design that's a problem. Shipping something like this back costs way too much so if you get this, you're stuck with it and will have to find 'creative' ways to get your muscle overload to get around the issue where you don't get that usual negative rep resistance that you get from regular gym equipment. I gave 3 stars because of the price, only 1 manufacture defect, and number of features the gym has. If this didn't fill so much space in the garage, i'd probably consider getting another type of gym equipment that does cable crossovers better. One thing I ended up doing as part of 'creative' use of this SM-4008 gym machine is to use it as a place to grab onto as I lie flat on my back to do single-handed arm cross-overs while grabbing the cable at the bottom of the cheaper, 150lb Marcy gym station I mentioned at the beginning of my review. Another thing I tried with the SM-4008 to get around the bad negative resistance is to get on a ladder and then perform my chest crossovers where my back is sitting against the cage. Yeah, weird stuff, but I do what I gotta do to get buff, right? Who would have thought a guy would have a ladder in his gym. One pro of the SM-4008 is that it will take both your Olympic and regular sized metal plates; that means the big and small hole plates for those of you who don't know the difference in plates. I really wouldn't recommend this Marcy SM-4008 gym to anyone, beginner or advanced person. Doing a quality exercise beats doing dozens of ones that a big gym like this claims it can do, so look for something that does cable crossovers. Smith Machines aren't necessary; I only use mine for military presses over free weights cause its more convenient. I still do benchpresses with my free weight barbell. You want a nice benchpress station that doesn't need a spotter? get this "Fitness Gear Pro Half Rack" imo. ... show more

This machine is absolutely amazing , yes it was an all day ordeal putting it together with my boyfriend but it was totally worth it . I did under measure before I bought it and it’s pretty huge but I don’t care I’m loving being able to use it at my leisure and seeing as I’m an autism mom it’s so hard to make it anywhere to work out that is out of my home so this is making my life great on so many levels . ... show more
