Description

Jonathan Switcher (McCarthy) has certainly been living up to his name. A frustrated artist, he switches from one dead-end job to another, never managing to hold on to any of them. But all of that changes when a mannequin he created for a department store window comes magically to life! Gorgeous and statuesque, this fiberglass femme fatale (Cattrall) helps Jonathan turn his career around, inspiring him to be the best window dresser in town. But she soon discovers that the real world isn't so easy, when they run into competitors who want to put them out of businessfor good! Mannequin is notionally a romantic comedy in which Andrew McCarthy plays a luckless department-store employee and Kim Cattrall (Sex and the City) is an Egyptian princess reincarnated as a shop-window dummy, who comes to life when she encounters McCarthy, only to revert to mannequin status when anyone else is watching her. With her encouragement, he becomes emboldened in his career as a window decorator as well as falling in love with the princess. James Spader's oily, stammering executive is just one of the many examples of a film that tries way too hard to be funny, the sort of characterization that would be barely adequate for a TV commercial, let alone a 90-minute movie. Still, for fans of Sex and the City who might want to feast upon the spectacle of a younger Kim Cattrall, Mannequin might offer a measure of relief. --David Stubbs

First off, when I got the Blu-Ray I was disappointed that the Blu-Ray disc was loose in the case. That makes me a little uncomfortable, because I like my discs to be in perfect condition for viewing and re-selling in the future. The price for this disc is understandable. This movie is not available to stream on iTunes, Prime or Netflix. It isn’t even available for digital purchase. I believe that is because of copyright issues going on right now. The disc will play on your gaming system, as it plays on my PS5 without any problem. When you load the disc, it will show the piracy warning, then a logo for Olive Films. Then you will get your main menu. The main menu is basically the poster on the cover. Unfortunately there is no subtitles or bonus features. Without subtitles that means you cannot show it to your friends who speak another language. The Pop-Up menu shows the main menu option and the trailers. Because there are not much features. Since this is not available to stream, you will not be able to convert it with Vudu Disc to Digital. So buying this blu-ray is the closest you will get to owning it. Is it worth it? Of course! Just keep in mind it is just the movie without bonus features. Just like the G.I Joe movie it’s rare to get the movie in this quality. I think for this movie, it is priced fine, but for the second one. I think $19 or more is too much, because you can actually enjoy the second on on iTunes. Definitely worth a buy! ... show more

Can't get this movie online so I ordered it. I had a heart attack when I saw the cover in German but then realized I could change the settings. It does not play on my PS4 system because of UK only restrictions but luckily I had an old DVD player. Overall loved the movie ♡

I seen this awhile back , I forgot how much I enjoyed the movies of that era. You can say silly to a certain extent, but with a little imagination? Puts me back in that mind set , and not worry about todays drama .💜, hope if you view it for the first time ? That you enjoy it , I had this thing with having them on dvd. On hand. ... show more

I purchased this as part of my nostalgia collection from back in the day. It's better than I remember it. Funny. Not perfect but worth the watch. The black and white movie 'One Touch of Venus' is a masterpiece must have. Similar theme. The music in 'One Touch of Venus' is beautiful. Especially the song 'Speak Low'. If you compare Mannequin with the classic it won't hold up. But if you watch Mannequin as a simple 80s fun flick you will enjoy it. . ... show more
