These are some of the worst horn scales I've ever seen. One side was fine, useable. The other so called matching side was thin, cracked and brittle and a totally different color. I can use the one side so I kept them but I would not buy from this seller again.

You have to understand this is not a man made thing here! It has blemishes. The thickness will somewhat vary. The particular ones I got were fairly the same size, but not exact. Had 1 bad spot but was going to take that off anyway. They’re about 3/8 thick. I like a big handle so I will add some spacing material for myself. Plenty thick enough for a pocket knife or even kitchen knife. I’m using for a full tang camp knife. Not a bad product. Just keep this in mind. If you’re needing exact measurements and exact use go with a man made product. These things do vary. ... show more

This material made my best knife even better. Readily accepts dye, I gave mine an epoxy coating to preserve the color, but natural would also be very attractive. Highly recommended. Tough stuff.

As to be expected from animal based materials, there is some variation in what is received. However it seems to be workable. I would definitely be prepared for the smell when sanding.
