  • Speed range is inconsistent
Style: Bare Tool Only
I've so far use this gun to caulk about 450 linear feet of Type II Silicon and I've had mixed results. I'm not a professional but let me describe how this gun works in terms of pressure control. There are two methods to control the speed/pressure the gun applies to the tube. 1. There is a dial on the back of the gun ranging from 1 to 5. 1 applies very slowly, but 2 applies too quickly. So quickly, in fact, that the product ends up seeping from the back of the tube and making a mess inside the gun. You can set the dial to various increments between 1 and 2, but I still find "1.1" to be significantly faster than just 1. This is pretty annoying, and I've never ever had to go above 2. 2. You can also control speed by how much you squeeze the trigger. Unfortunately, this control is inconsistent. Using a half-way squeeze, as I start applying the bead, a lot of pressure is applied, and then it slows down as I'm part way through the bead. Then, for some reason, it will speed up again after I've done about a foot or two of bead. So instead of being able to move the gun at a constant speed, I have to move faster or slow down depending on how much pressure the gun is applying at any given moment. Very frustrating. I would much prefer to be able to move at a constant speed, which requires the gun to also apply a constant pressure, which it does not when using the variable trigger method. For the dial, If the difference in speed between 1 and 2 wasn't so great, it would be much easier to use. That being said, the gun sure has saved me a lot of hand cramps and probably has saved me from getting carpal tunnel. I just wish the speed control was more perfect. ... show more

  • Great Tool!!
Style: Bare Tool Only
Ive been a builder for nearly 50 years and all I can say about this tool is I wish I had bought it sooner. This thing is great!! I own many Makita and Dewalt batteries so I read the reviews for both Makita and Dewalt and the Dewalt seemed to have complaints re the caulk being fed too fast.......so I chose and purchased the Makita hoping for the best. My helper is Very picky when it comes to caulking jobs. We had been working on caulking the seams of an old Airstream trailers belly pan, a good test for the new gun, after getting the flow adjustment setting to where he wanted it he really never looked back, never went back to the old hand operated gun. I too have used the gun and wow, it makes caulking jobs so easy!!................(This is a glowing review and I am not in any way being compensated for this review or connected with Makita in any way).....take care! ... show more

  • What you need to know
Style: Bare Tool Only
Oh boy, did I want to believe.... First, with the battery and the tube of caulking installed, this thing is heavy. It weighs about the same as two Makita drills. This makes any type of precision work impossible or if you have to do any over the head work it gets old quickly. The unit is front-heavy, so if you place it straight down like you would a drill, it falls over straight onto the tip. There is a speed setting pof 1-5, but you will only use 1-1.25. There's no feather feature on the trigger. This stinks. There's no way to reduce the amount of caulk coming out as you get to thinner or wider gaps as you could do with a manual caulker. When you let go of the trigger, the unit backs off so that caulk doesn't squirt out. It takes about 5-10 seconds from when you pull the trigger again for caulk to come out. This also gets pretty old. You're just sitting there waiting an unknown amount of time before the caulking starts shooting out. You cannot use this for any type of precision or FINISH work as I stated. It's just too hard. If you are sealing say something where there will be trim over it, then this would speed things up. For baseboards or molding, there's just no way. ... show more

  • I love this gun!
Style: Bare Tool Only
If you caulk a lot, BUY THIS. This thing works GREAT. Adjustment takes a bit of getting used to - you'll need to make very tiny changes on the speed dial to get the flow rate just right. Also, I have no idea why, but most calks and adhesives seem to dispense with fewer air bubbles (those annoying gaps when caulking). Almost non-existent with small and large cartridges alike. Really saves a lot of time and energy. Changing cartridge size requires a phillips screwdriver and about 2 minutes. If you haven't lost or misplaced any parts... Be sure to check prices if you want both cartridge sizes, because you'll save money buying the tool with one size and then buying the add-on cartridge holder in the other size. When I got mine I saved about twenty bucks buying the tool with the large holder and then ordering the small holder separately. ... show more

  • Works great especially on thick heavy materials.
Style: Bare Tool Only
This thing is a beast. Makes me want to caulk and seal everything. Nice even bead distribution and smooth flow. Makes quick work of caulking and with the variable sizes available. Love it. My wife is constantly doing projects with adhesives and she has tiny hands and has a hard time squeezing a standard caulking gun. This thing makes even the thickest substances come out with zero effort. Love it. ... show more

  • Love this tool
Style: Bare Tool Only
Love this tool. It works great. I own and operate a window business so I do a lot of caulking. So I bought this makita caulking gun. Wow all I had to do was press the trigger. I install 15-20 Windows per day most days (new construction). That's all four sides of the window nail flange that gets caulked. Now that it's winter and the caulking is a bit colder(keep it in the truck on the way to work) the tool failed from the force of trying to work the tool. The carbon fiber caulking tube holder is threaded and now it has failed and just jumps the threads as soon as a small amount of pressure is applied. I'm going to call makita tomorrow their website states a one year limited warranty. I've only had the tool since November 1st 2016 and now I'm a few days past the return date of thirty days for Amazon. I'm going to suggest the carbon fiber caulking tube holder and the carbon fiber mating washer be made of a stronger material. The other reason give this tool only four stars is the carbon fiber plunger at the end of the push rod is not keeping the inevitable caulking squeeze out from reaching the rod and making a mess. ... show more
