It’s definitely a heavy/sturdy binding machine. It works great. If you have never bought one make sure you pay attention to the pitch. It’s 3:1 meaning you will need to buy 3:1 binding spines if you want bigger spines! I didn’t know and bought 2:1 pitch spines which definitely won’t work.

This machine is a beast. Pretty dang heavy. The instructions are small and vague, at least to me. It works really well. You will need a pair of wire cutters though as it doesn't come with one. After you bind your pages, you will need to trim it even is you bind regular 8.5 x 11 paper. I had to look up instructions on another brand that had a video in order to understand how to use it. ... show more

    • Very hard to find larger wire binding
If you’re making books using a binding larger than what comes with the machine it’s pretty hard to find binding. I got this for free because of a shipping screw up on amazons part but I probably would have returned it and gotten a cinch . The machine works great just not for bigger books

Pros: Reasonably priced Sturdy materials Cons: Heavy Instructions leave a little to be desired This book binder is solidly built and easy to use. If you have never used this style before, I would highly suggest watching a couple of videos online before attempting your first project. The included directions are okay, but very limited. A video would be more helpful. With that said, once you get the hang of it, it’s super easy to use. One important thing to note is that this machine does come pre-oiled. This is great because it means that it arrives in great condition and there’s no risk of rusting. However, you will want to run some scraps through it before actually starting a project to ensure you don’t ruin your hard work. Overall, I would highly recommend this machine to anyone looking to make some books. While I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this for someone hoping to make hundreds, it’s perfect for smaller or medium sized projects. It saves money over purchasing them somewhere and it’s especially helpful for projects you want to get done quickly and easily. ... show more

Not everyone needs a binding machine, but when you do, you want something that is easy to use, is sturdy, and of course, at a good price. I’m currently working on a project and realized that I’ll be creating some reports and want a professional result. I had priced having a local mail business to do this binding for me, but found that binding as few as 10-12 books and I’d have paid for this binding machine. For binding more than 15, or so, I’d really be saving quite a bit of money by doing this myself with this machine. My first impression… this thing is solid and HEAVY. Nothing to plug in and the instructions are a single page and easy to understand. If the page chart is needed from the instruction sheet, no worries, the info is actually imprinted on the base of the device itself. Simply adjust the knob for paper size. Line your paper up then punch like any other paper punch. Take one of the included metal coils and place on the little teeth on front of the binder. Carefully line up the pages and place them on the little teeth on top of the coil. Lift all pages and the coil, insert it into the space on top and pull the lever which pinches the coils and seals the pages inside the wire coil. Note.. the instructions state to punch several times to remove excess grease from the new cutter. A sheet of cardboard is even provided for this purpose. For crimping the coil together, turn the pages front side DOWN. I first tried it face up, but it didn’t work. The second time was the charm. Finally, the only negative I can share is that there is a little drawer where the little punched paper bits collect. The drawer does not pull out completely for emptying. This binder is quite heavy to pick up then turn upside down and shake in order to remove the paper “holes”. The arm which punches holes and crimps the coils is also rather difficult to pull down. For a healthy adult, no problem, but it would be a challenge for a child or the elderly. Another question you may have… the chart included with these instructions refer to using 80g paper. What’s that? Typical 20-lb. paper is 75g, then adding a heavier cover and back will be thicker. I plan to calculate paper based on 20 lb. paper. If the paper is thicker, them fewer sheets can be used. If thinner, then I can increase the number of sheets. Easy. For my purposes, this binding machine is perfect. I will be purchasing vinyl/plastic sheets to use as front and back covers. I also know that if I need to bind larger books, I can simply purchase larger coils. While it takes more effort than simply dropping them off at an office store, it certainly is less expensive if one will use it for at least a dozen books. I’m very pleased with this binding machine and know it will last for years. Five Stars!! I hope you found this review to be helpful. Thanks for reading!! ... show more
