The book has nice ideas and good packaging tips, however it's disappointing that all but maybe one recipe in this book have to be refrigerated. I'm personally not comfortable giving a self care gift to someone and then telling that person that they need to keep it in the fridge so it doesn't melt or go bad. Also, not things you can ship to someone if you have loved ones that are not in your immediate area. Wouldn't have purchased if I knew this info beforehand. ... show more

I have always been intimidated with any DIY beauty-type projects. I'm not super crafty and it all seemed very chemistry-like to me (I wasn't good at chemistry either). Home Apothecary has a couple of great things going for it: 1. It includes very approachable projects that are simple and pretty quick to make. 2. It walks you though every step of the process, right down to adorable packaging ideas. I recently made the calendula lotion bars and they came out so great. I had mentally prepared myself for a Pinterest-style fail, but they look amazing (see picture). Better yet, I gained a lot of confidence that I can actually make these things. The book itself would be an excellent gift, but I think I'll keep it for myself and make lots of other gifts from it. The nice thing is that the recipes seem to make enough to give some away and keep some for myself. I don't have kids, but I would imagine that these would be great projects to do with children too. So glad I took the plunge and gave one of these recipes a try. ... show more
