excellent product. perfect match. just be prepared to be soked in coolant. and be patient through the install... you are gonna want to break the car...lol. especially for the convertibles... there are additional re-enforcements under the car... just lift the radiator fan, and you will have more room on the bottom to get to it. take the water pump out first, and then the thermo... there are some video's out there that does it backwords... not a wise decision. great product. ... show more

  • Better packaging and a sealed box would be nice, but works fine.
2006 BMW 330i The thermostat box was not sealed and the thermostat was just sitting inside of it with no additional protection. The sticker on the box said made in Germany. The thermostat went on fine, except the larger plastic hose connection required some KY and super human strength to get on. Note that the OEM supplier is Wahler (as cast on my old thermostat). Your old thermostat may have an aluminum housing, but all the new ones are plastic. The replacement procedure can be found online, but here is a quick summary: - Remove primary skid plate. - Remove forward skid plate (and brackets). - Disconnect power steering hose bracket and zip tie aft. - Disconnect sway bar and zip tie aft. (nut torque 21nm). - Disconnect electrical connectors at the pump and thermostat, clean and tuck away where they won’t get wet. - Disconnect lowest waterpump hose and let drain. - Loosen the hose clamp on the upper waterpump hose, it does not need to be removed yet. - Remove the two waterpump torx bolts (bolt torque 10nm). - Remove the two thermostat bolts that are common to the waterpump. - Remove the upper waterpump torx bolt. - Remove the waterpump, pulling it from the upper hose (Addition: replace this hose, it gets abused during this process and will likely leak like mine did, Rein CHE0496). - Remove the thermostat hoses, the one that was connected to the waterpump can stay on for now. - The plastic connectors need to have the wire retainer pulled up before that can be removed (note orientation of hoses that use standard hose clamps). - Remove thermostat and transfer the one hose that is still connected over to the new thermostat. - Reinstall waterpump and thermostat in reverse order. - During reinstallation, lube hoses with antifreeze, if that is not enough lube with KY. - Fill coolant, with bleeder plug removed (pre-mix BMW coolant with distilled water before filling). - Tighten bleed plug and replace cap. - Run bleed procedure: key in ignition, tap start button (do not start car), both temp controls to max, hold gas petal down for 10-15 seconds, let bleed run for 12 minutes (you should here periodic gushing noises at the waterpump). - Refill coolant. - Run bleed procedure again. - Refill coolant. - Reinstall sway bar and power steering hose bracket while bleeding. - Put on skid plates. Note: I did not drain the radiator, I just let it rain from the waterpump and thermostat hoses. I did not remove the fan assembly, this makes getting to the upper waterpump bolt tough, but not impossible. ... show more

  • Perfect replacement fit and function.
The packaging is questionable as the part comes in a hot-glued shut cardboard box with no additional packaging. The part just flops around in the box, but it's the real deal. Pry up the end of the hose fittings and squirt in some WD-40 or other liquid lube to help get the fixed hoses off of the OEM thermostat. You can use a pry bar or screw-driver to get the OEM clip hoses off of the OEM thermostat as it has some places you can pry against. The OEM clip-hoses fit SUPER snug onto the replacement. Takes some wiggling and force to put the hose back on. Even with some coolant acting as lube on the gaskets. Cleared my P0128 and the car is back up and running like it should be. 2007 Z4 ... show more

Worked great, and to say it fit like a glove would be an understatement. Good luck getting it installed though, I only had ramps and not jack stands when I swapped it. With the tight fit and limited room under the car it was near impossible to get the t-stat and pump reinstalled. I had to remove the radiator fan and intake piping to make it work. A low profile jack of sufficient length to get under the front subframe and rear differential with some jack stands, or a actual car lift/hoist may not have the issues I did. Regardless, expert level tetris skills are required to get the parts up into the area where they belong in the right order, then rotated and re-positioned into place while still leaving enough room to get the water pump's bolts reinstalled. ... show more
