I did a lot of research before purchasing this. I am listing pros and cons, so you can make an informed decision and not be surprised. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone needing a small dryer for a condo/apartment/etc. Pros: This is the exact perfect size to go along with the washer I bought(Giantex 1.6 cubic feet). In about 80 minutes it will dry most of my wet clothes. The only things that need a little longer are towels. It is the perfect size for my needs and apartment. It doesn't quite pay for itself (based on my math of using the washer/dryer in my building $4 a load, once a week, for a year). However, if I do not need it after this year, I could easily sell it and make a profit. It is worth it for the convenience alone. Cons: The first time I used it, I set it on 100 minutes and left the apartment. I came back over 2 hours later and it was still going. To fix this I turned off eco mode and put it on normal. I also have sensor dry turned off as well. Since then I have not had this problem again. The machine makes a slapping sound. I took off the back and spun it by hand, as well as watching it run via power. The sound seemed to be coming from the top left (from the rear). I could not see what was actually causing it, so I am guessing there may be something in the drum (assuming it has two layers). Outside of that I do not know what could be causing it. It is a little annoying, but I'm getting used to it. It heats up the kitchen a little bit. It is not unbearable, and it is a result of venting it inside the apartment as oppose to outside. That is more of a con due to my situation. There are vent kits that would allow it to vent out of a window while keeping it sealed. However I live in an old house and the old wooden windows are painted or stuck shut.

My wife and I purchased this unit a few months ago and it has worked like a charm. We are a couple of empty nesters so our laundry load isn't that much. We purchased a small imported washer a month or so previous to this purchase and it works a treat, but not having a yard to string up clothes lines we resorted to getting a couple of drying racks. That worked, but it also took up a lot of space. So we bit the bullet and got this dryer, as well as the rack it can sit on over our washer. We also purchased a duct kit so that we could duct the exhaust outside. Being a 120 volt appliance, it won't dry clothes as quickly as a full-sized dryer. This unit uses about 800 watts of power, or about as much as a hair dryer running on low. Don't let that fool you into thinking it doesn't get hot, it does, but it also moves a lot of air through the drum. Between the two it gets clothes very dry, it just takes longer. The machine arrived well packaged with lots of padding in a sturdy box. The machine is all metal except for the door and some smaller parts like the lint filter. That said, the drum is fairly small. A typical basket of clothes is easily two loads, maybe three. Because air moving through the machine is so important, you -must- clean the lint filter after every load. Fortunately, that is pretty easy, but it is something that must be done or it will just take that much longer to dry. I prefer to use a small brush to clean the filter rather than washing it with water. Overall, we are very happy with this purchase. Magic Chef is actually a fairly well respected name in small appliances like toaster ovens and such, so while it seems odd for a kitchen appliance company to make laundry machines, this is really right up their alley. We love not having to drive to the laundromat every week, and with the money saved from that, I expect this machine to pay for itself.

I purchased this dryer back in June 2017 and it's July 2018 now and it still works and hasn't given me any trouble at all. It had survived move from SF bay area to LA with minimal dent and still working. Can't say the same about other things got damaged by movers sigh. Condo we rented in SF had no washer and dryer and I had to drug dirty laundry to local laundromat. After a while I got fed up with those trips since we lived in a bay area cost of doing laundry was way more expensive than anywhere else and parking was a nightmare. Also, I had to leave 2 little kids at home with my husband and get constant calls and messages from him asking when I am coming home since he couldn't handle them. Ugh So after one of those trips I got online and got this mighty little helper. I also bought a washing machine but through another store. I would've gotten it from Amazon if it wasn't on back order and I couldn't wait a month. With 2 little kids and husbands gym clothes I do 4 loads of laundry per week. In a bay area one load of wash and dry was roughly costing $4 to $6 /depending if I had to use larger washer for big blankets and jackets and extra drying cycle/ and with 4 loads I spent at least $16 a week. By now my dryer had paid off itself and honestly working overtime. If it stops working I will just get another one since it pays itself in less than a year and it saves my sanity by not having to get out of the door to do laundry. When we had to move to LA my husband wanted to get rid of our washer and dryer but I insisted on taking them just in case and I am glad I did. Now that we live in LA there is a laundry room in our building complex but with only 2 washers and 2 dryers, trying to have laundry done was getting impossible since some people would leave their stuff in there for hours. Going up and down the stairs to check when that "special" person/people get their things out was driving me nuts. I see that many people complain about this dryer and I believe it's because of their own fault. Yes it can have manufacturing defect and can be damaged while shipped and delivery guys can drop it and those can be the cause of mulfunction but I also know that people can be ignorants. I am certain most of those negative reviewers failed to clean lint after each load and accumulated lint would make machine heat up and quit working. I have my dryer on the floor and It was inconvenient to bend over to remove and clean lint compartment at first but I got used to it and since I take care of this machine it hasn't given me any issues yet. If you don't check and clean your filters lint will start accumulating around and behind the filter and simply go into the motor. Remember this is not a regular dryer and not built the same way. Filter gets dirty pretty fast and has to be washed often and I recommend getting generic ones here on Amazon for backup. They cost around $5.50 for 4 round exhaust/lint and 1 small intake filter. The door hinge is made of plastic so you have to be careful not to pull it down and certainly not let kids touch it. There is no start button, it starts once you turn the knob to desired time. Avoid overstuffing it that may also be the cause of motor overheating. I have a Magic Chef 1.6 cu ft Topload Compact Washer which I also don't overload and after 1 wash I separate load in half and do 2 cycles in drying machine even though it has 2.6 cu. ft. capacity I make sure clothes can freely move inside and dry evenly. First time use: I recommend wiping it down inside to remove any manufacturing chemical residue. Check if exhaust/lint and intake filters present and placed correctly. Run a cycle with fragrant drying sheets and one wet towel, this way it will remove unpleasant smell /if any/ and you can check if it heats up properly. Take care of it and it will serve you for a long time just like a car. And honestly do you really want to do laundry in the same machine that your neighbor washed and dryed his piss mat/rug/sheets or muddy shoes and who knows whatever cudies they had. I certainly won't want that especially if it comes to my children.

works great. we have owned this dryer for 5 years . my wife uses it 2 to 3 times daily. the only negatives is the blower belt has broke twice in that time which it is easy to replace if your semi handy and own a screw gun . also the lint trap falls off inside once and a while if your drying heavy items lplus you have to replace the filters every couple few months. not to say it is small but still worth the money and better then going to a laundry mat.

If I could I would give this dryer no stars. After paying a handyman to come and install a cabinet and countertop to put this dryer on and having duct work installed to vent it, it overheated on the first load of clothes. Got so hot that I could not even touch the metal housing of the dryer!!! On top of that it put out the worst smell I have ever smelled. My first and only load of clothes came out smelling awful, like a dead skunk, and it stunk up my entire utility room. wish I had looked at reviews before buying as I now see Many Many other people have this very same issue. And several people have been told by magic chef (company that makes this dryer) that there was a large bad batch of these dryers that caused the smell. So not only does the maker know about this defect but so does amazon and yet they continue to sell them instead of doing a recall and replacing them with nondefective unites. Now I am stuck with a dryer that I cant use, out $205.00, and will need to spend more somewhere else to purchase yet another dryer. AMAZON HAS BEEN NO HELP WITH THIS ISSUE. All they say is to pack it up and ship it back. How does a everyday person pack up a large bulky heavy clothes dryer. The box it was shipped in cant be reused and even if it could, its not going to be held together with a little tape. The box comes with 4 heavy duty straps around it and they cant be reused once cut to open the box. Amazon saying that this item can be returned is just a SCAM since they know most people would not be able to pack it back up for return. They told me I would have to go buy a box, packing materials and tape myself. Even sent me a link to buy boxes, yet non of the boxes in the link were even close to being large enough. DONT BY THIS DRYER UNLESS YOU WANT YOUR CLOTHES SMELLING LIKE A SKUNK AND YOU WANT TO BURN DOWN YOUR HOUSE. UPDATE - I emailed Magic Chef customer service and its been 4 business days and no reply from them. I tried to register this dryer with magic chef so that I could call and file a claim and their web site will not allow me to complete the registration after I have filled out everything. Of course no registration card came with the dryer that I could mail in. Hard to register a product when the company's website will not allow me to finish and complete the registration. CHEAP PRODUCT, BEING MADE BY A CHEAP COMPANY AND BEING SOLD BY ANOTHER CHEAP COMPANY(AMAZON).

Update!!! Amazon was fast to replace my dryer. I’m very pleased with how smooth it seems to be running. It’s quieter then my old full size dryer When I had w/d hookups. I think the only con I wish the electric cord was longer because my apartment doesn’t have tons of outlets. Also I’m confused because it says wall mounted included but I don’t have wall mounts. Unless they were hidden in the box but I looked pretty thoroughly. This will save me from the laundromat so I’m happy so far. I would recommend this to anyone who doesn’t have hookups. I did but one of those indoor dryer vents to attach. It also is working as a heater and humidifier which I love now but might not love in the summer First review: I was super excited to have a dryer. I live upstairs and am disabled and I dread the laundromat these days. I have a portable washer I love but some clothes need a heated dryer. I got it the other day and opened it up today, ready to get some laundry done. It was heavy to get out of the box on my one and pulled my back out. I ended up figured out the smart way to get the box off. First impression I was impressed with the sturdiness of it. It doesn’t feel cheap or flimsy like I was worried about. And then I see the sides are both bent in. One side a lot worse then the other. I’m confused because it was boxed with 2 heavy duty boxes and wrapped with cardboard and styrofoam very snug. The boxes didn’t look damaged at all so that tells me this was damaged BEFORE packing it all nicely In the box. That’s crazy. It’s a waste of the companies money to ship damaged goods. I find it hard to believe someone didn’t see this whole packaging or maybe they need a new procedure before shipping such large heavy items out. Now I need to get this back into a box I started to tear up and try to coordinate with ups to come pick it up. I’m unable to carry this down stairs and drop it off. I hope they make extra careful shipping my replacement. Pain in the butt. I gave it 2 stars to be fair because it does seem like it’s a good quality machine but maybe they are poorly handled in the warehouse. Update review as soon as I use the replacement

This little dryer is just right for what I needed. I struggled with it setting it up (on a rolling stand, in my case) because of my age and lack of physical strength. I am able to lift it, but not carry it very far. I bought an indoor venting kit for it, which was easy to attach. When I first got it, it would NOT turn off. I set it up, installed the indoor venting kit and then when I plugged it in, it came on. So I turned the dial to OFF. It kept going. So I turned it a little this way and then that, but it kept going. So I turned it to the other OFF position, but the same thing happened. I called Amazon, who offered me a refund or replacement. This is a large item which would not be fun at all to rebox, or spend 20 minutes trying to drag to the door for pickup. I was going to call Magic Chef's Customer Care (888/775-0202) for help. I went to their website and decided to contact them by chat instead. The woman who answered my chat said to call Amazon after I told her what the unit is doing. I told her I did not want to return the unit, I wanted to fix it and keep it. I said So Magic Chef does not stand behind their products?? She said to call Amazon, as they are a third party seller and it is not their problem. I could NOT believe what I was reading. I decided to register the product on Magic Chef's website and email them to see if I could get more help. I did. They called and left a ticket number for me to call and schedule a service person to come fix the dryer. When I called, the lady on the phone told me one thing to try first which ended up fixing the dryer. Here's what it was, for anyone else who experiences the same thing: This dryer has an Eco Mode. When my Eco Mode button was not pressed down (turning the Eco Mode on), my dryer would not turn off, but when I pressed the button in, and then turned the dial to Off, it turned Off. I love everything about this little dryer so far, but haven't used it yet (waiting for my compact washer to arrive). I will come back and update this review when I have used it, if I have anything to say UPDATE: I have several things to add about this little compact dryer. I love the overall aesthetic of it. It looks nice and does not take up an inordinate amount of room. I wanted to set it on a solid table so I could more easily reach the lint filter after each dry load, but it made a noise that sounded like a ball point pen being scraped across a metal washboard. So I put it on the floor. It still makes the noise. All the time. Every load. This is my biggest issue. I went back to Magic Chef's website, where I had registered it, and logged in thinking I would turn in a trouble ticket, but it did not even show I had registered it. What a waste of time. I tried to call customer service and was on hold forever. I gave up. I shut the door so I don't hear the noise as loudly while I am drying, but I am very dissatisfied with the lack of customer service and with not being able to get any help for this problem. Going forward with this in mind, I will NOT buy another Magic Chef product. The dryer does okay drying about 1/2 a compact washer load of clothes at a time. Drying that much takes an hour or more most of the time. I rarely use the high setting because I don't want to ruin my knit clothes. The lint filter is in the least convenient place they could possibly have put it, made far worse by the fact I have the dryer on the floor. It is in the center of the back of the drum, so I have to get all the way down on the floor to clean it after each load. It is easy to pull off since it has finger holes, but difficult to put back in since you can't see in the drum well to center it exactly. At this point, with the lack of help and repair available through Customer Service, I cannot recommend this dryer. I give it three stars for aesthetics and compactness and it does actually dry clothes in small loads. UPDATE 10 MONTHS IN: Well, now the exhaust lint shroud (main lint screen in back of drum) has broken, so the dryer isn't usable at all. This dryer is a waste of money and I will never buy anything made by Magic Chef again after the way they treat their customers who buy on Amazon. But just in case, I called them. I explained to the lady who answered what was going on, and the noise it was (still) making. She opened a trouble ticket and said a warranty repairman would be calling me to come service it. The next day I got an email from Magic Chef with a buy-back offer. They said if I would cut off the cord and photograph the serial number and the cut cord and send them that, they would refund me on the dryer. I was so tired of messing with them over this dryer I said yes. I got the refund check today. They refund only the actual price of the dryer, not taxes or shipping. I am fine with that. I have since purchased a "portable dryer" here on Amazon which works great for just me.

I just got our dryer Friday and it is now Sunday. I only had several options in a dryer because we will use it in our RV and dimensions were limited. Most that were available had mostly good and some bad reviews, so this is after one use. I will try to post a second review after we take it out on several trips and get more use out of it. Initially I am VERY HAPPY with this unit. The basket is larger than I imagined and the controls are easy to see and use. Being a 110v wall receptacle, it does not get real hot which is a plus to me because that helps your clothes. I'd rather run it 10 to 20 minutes longer than risk a fire or damage clothing. It took an hour and a half to dry 4 large bath towels right from the washing machine which is about what I thought it would take. I made the outside kitchen area in our RV big enough to carry the dryer. We don't use the fridge that was in it and I cut down the left side of the cabinet to have enough room left to right. I then made an extension board that gave me enough room for it to sit on, really looks cool! A plug is right there so all I do is plug it in, attach the twist on elbow at the back, extend the hose I got at Lowe's and we're drying stuff. I read several folks had issues with things going on inside, so today I removed the back just to make sure there were no wires or other parts making contact with the drum or anything that looked suspicious---all was good! The filter is easy to clean and I hope that my next review is still a 5 star and it lasts. My only concern as of now is getting parts, replacement belts or service of any kind? We'll see. I would recommend this to someone looking for a compact dryer but don't expect it to dry a full load fast. Two small loads would be better and make for less wrinkles!! Bob Trice Rockwell, NC
