I bought 3 backpacks, unsure of which style I'd like best, and kept this one in the lime green. It was the largest of the 3 and we weren't sure if we needed one that big, but glad we went with it. First use was a day trip to the race track. We froze some water bottles to use as ice packs, had 4 froze, 2 unfrozen, 8 beers, and 2 sodas in with no issue. Our drinks stayed chilled for the 12 hours we were out there. The only complaint was our sandwiches didn't stay as cold as preferred. Those were only in there for 2 hrs before we ate them. So I'd definitely say this is better for drinks than food. And maybe we needed more ice packs or ice. Not sure how it will hold up if you use loose ice. The many pockets are a plus for coozies, napkins, hand sanitizer, etc. Also this was the most comfortable to wear out of the ones we tested.

Use for bikepacking lunch to work, and groceries home. I never go hungry with the room in the insulated compartment. I love keeping my cutlery contained in dedicated holders. The exterior top holder is great for a pack of personal wipes, an iPhone, small voice recorder, super balls, and other odds and ends. It’s deeper than it seems. The back exterior pockets I use for its rain bonnet. I got the Salzmann (sic) pack cover medium in orange and it fits. Snug, but dry. If I didn’t pack a ton of food for work I could fit in my rain gear, but the bike has a rack so we fill that bag with clothes. The shoulder straps are soft, roomy to get into (48” chest), yet still snug and unshifting without the chest strap hooked, The pack sits higher on my back than most of my others, which is good for bike commuting as I have a bike trunk bag (Ibera) that sits higher and rubs against lower packs (REI 40L hiking). No need yet, but I love the bottle opener. We sometimes have fancy cold sodas at work and they don’t all twist off. I’m too lazy to try to swap it, but the chest strap buckles left into right. I’m used to the other way so I guess it’s daily brain training. Randomly I love the blaze orange especially against the medium tone gray. Just looks cool to me. Based on another reviewer I stuck with this version instead of the newer one. It has more colors, allegedly better stitching, definitely enough capacity.

Overall, great features. It’s lightweight, easy to carry, and has plenty of extra space and pockets for organizing snacks, cups and essentials. The design makes it convenient day trips, baseball and softball parks and the lake . Downside is that it does not hold key very well . If you are planning a longer outing or hot weather, you might find ice melts faster than expected . It works better with ice packs than loose ice . This is a solid choice with modification for ice . Enjoy the hot days with the family !

Took this bag on a canoe trip, ended up flipping the canoe and everything inside the bag stayed dry!! It’s a little bit on the bulky side but stays insulated very well! It has lots of compartments and was great for our trip. I would definitely repurchase!
