  • ONE OF THE BETTER BUDGET TELECASTERS
Size: 39" Right Handed Color: Natural
I just bought a new Lyxpro Telecaster and a few months back I bought a Donner Telecaster and a Monoprice Telecaster so a little comparison here. The Donner costs a bit more but it comes with a nice gig bag. The Monoprice was the cheapest of the lot and comes with a much inferior gig bag than the Donner. Really more of a dust cover than a gig bag. The Lyxpro does not come with any gig bag so after buying a gig bag the price is the same as the Donner. The Donner is the heaviest of the three and feels a bit more robust. The Monoprice is the next heaviest and the Lyxpro is a lighter more comfortable weight than either of the above. The nuts on all of these are cheap garbage. You will want to put a good nut of your choice in for the duration. The hardware is virtually the same on both the Lyxpro and the Donner. The Monoprice tuners are cheaper but work. The Monoprice also has a better bridge than the Donner and Lynxpro as it is six saddle adjustable. On both the Donner and the Lynxpro I ended up installing compensating brass saddles to get those guitars intonated correctly. The saddles that come with the Donner and the Lyxpro are Telecaster accurate but that means never having perfect intonation. Something those type of saddles are known for. I actually like the sound of the Lyxpro pickups and found they have some balls and are Tele like whereas the Donner pickups I ended up switching out for some Toneriders. I will be leaving the Lyxpro pickups in for now. The Monoprice Tele pickups are less than Tele sounding than the Lyxpro. A more sedated almost Tele sound. I like the headstock of the Donner much better than the Monoprice or Lyxpro. It looks more professional than the obnoxious overly huge black logos on the Lyxpro or the Monoprice. The shape of the Donner headstock is less offensive to me also. The Lyxpro pays no homage at all to a Telecaster headstock and doesn’t even try and the Monoprice headstock is just a bit odd for me. Best neck out of the box was the Lyxpro and the fact that it has a Maple fretboard was a plus for me. It is also a bit thinner neck than the Monoprice or the Donner and is definitely the best playing neck of the lot. On both the Donner and Monoprice I had to do a fret level and recrown along with filing fret ends. The Lyxpro was great out of the box and I like that the neck has rounded edges. A very comfortable neck to play with no buzz whatsoever under spec settings. The Donner and Monoprice play fine BUT I had to work at it to finally get them right. Fit and finish: The Monoprice was spotless however what they call blonde is really an egg custard color. I am still trying to get used to that color. The Donner I bought was 3TS. Paint is beautiful but if you look at the guitar from the back you can see almost every seam from where they pieced the body together. The Monoprice did a better of that with no seams visible under the paint on mine. The Lyxpro is a natural guitar so there is no hiding how many pieces they used in it’s construction. There is no care at all in trying to match any grain on the pieces they use so you get what you get there. Overall finish was glossy and had some places where it has orange peeled though it isn‘t noticeable until very close up. If I had to recommend one of these it would be the Lyxpro simply because out of the box it was ready to go and sounds the most like a Tele so unless you can do your own work this one came setup the best. Oh, I bought a Donner gig bag to go with the Lyxpro. It fit fine and it is one of the better and more reasonable gig bags there is on Amazon. This company doesn't ship quickly. It took them 3 days just to get it out the door. When it did get to the local Amazon they passed shipment off to USPS which always means yet another delay so don't expect to get this by the promised date. ... show more

  • Product as advertised
Size: 39" Right Handed Color: Natural
It's a hunnert dollar guitar, so I didn't expect more. It's going to be a donor guitar for some adds and mods. It has the tele sound and profile I wanted. The hdstock is not big enough for a T profile mod though. The fit and finish is about what I expected. A few finish flaws, one with a wood chip under the poly and a small chip missing behind the nut. A tiny run at the lower bout bottom and one blem near the neck joint. Gloss finish body and neck good except as mentioned. The natural finish is a little darker than I expected but overall, the guitar looks pretty good and plays just fine . I did not need to adjust the saddles for intonation or height. The Paulownia body is very light, so tends to have a bit of neck dive. The body is 2 pcs., but grain and pattern is joined well. Hardly noticeable on the top, but visible from the end. Good value and only slightly lesser overall than the Squier models. PIckups are clean and powerful but weak on the first string bridge. May need adj. or replaced. It had a rough ride and the wedge shaped guitar carton was packaged in a box way too large and only packed with paper. The headstock end of the box was accordion smashed but I don't note any damage to the inst. ... show more

  • Unbelievable
Size: 39" Right Handed Color: Natural
This guitar is actually extremely impressive, I can't see not one flaw. The pickups work great the frats are perfect and the sound is crystal clear. Doesn't really have any sustain, but I don't think any telecaster really does. It's exactly what I want it and more. I really didn't expect that kind of performance out of $100 guitar but this could definitely stand toe to toe with a fender easy. Why spend hundreds of dollars when you get one for $100.???. ... show more

  • Better copies elsewhere
Size: 39" Right Handed Color: Natural
Note neck coating peeling by fret, scratches on pickguard. The intonation was poor, but off too far out of intonation on one string to correct. There exists other Telecaster copies being sold on another medium at an incredible 25% less, and includes gig bag, cord, even picks! A model I bought of the second mentioned guitar did intonate. It appeared to me that the smaller "Lyx" headstock may have BEEN one of the second, competing guitar and that Lyx simply reshaped the headstock a bit! I'm now curious to see if my review appears. ... show more

  • Great Value
Size: 39" Right Handed Color: Natural
I couldn’t be happier. I have guitars that cost 2k or more. I bought this on a whim while I wait for a telecaster to come from Fender sometime next year. Not only is it a beautiful guitar, it plays so well that I’ve put down my Fender American Ultra to play this one more often than not. The only thing I’ve done is change the strap buttons to Fender so they fit the strap locks on my strap, and I changed the string to the DR Pure Blues 9s—the strings it comes with are super cheap and twangy. Change them ASAP. I honestly expected there to be some degree of fret sprout, but there was none. A friend of mine is a professional musician, and he was impressed which made me feel even better about the purchase. I would caution the buyer to carefully inspect the guitar upon arrival. It is packages using the absolute minimal amount of packing and protection. Someone at the company really should address this. I had two shipped to me. One of them had a huge chip out out of it due to the insignificant amount of protection the packaging offers. The other, which I kept, had lacquer cracks probably caused by being in a 90+ degree UPS truck and then being brought to my air conditioner house. One should allow a guitar to sit for 24 hrs before opening it to avoid this, which I did, but it didn’t help because, again, it comes poorly packed in a thin, cheap box. Poor thing never stood a chance. Fortunately, the cracks in the finish were not on the front. Other than that, I’m, again, unexpectedly impressed. As my friend said, it’s worth every bit of the price. Other than shipping damage, if they are all this good, I would certainly buy another without hesitation. Just remember it’s a $100 guitar. You get what you pay for, and this was worth every dime. ... show more
