  • Very nice and consistant ingot mold
I picked up this ingot mold to help keep track of soft lead vs clip on weights. Already had a Lee ingot mold and will be using it for soft lead and the Lyman for harder lead. The finish on the mold is very good. And like other reviews after using it a bit I did have to reseat the handle with a soft mallet but the same is true of the Lee. The handle is very sturdy and even with all cavities filled it did not feel unstable. The mold itself is like the other in that to get good looking ingots you would have to pour and remelt half a dozen to get it up to temperature but once it is at temperature it drops a very nice looking even ingot. Being aluminum once you have filled it a few times it is so hot it will take a few minutes to solidify the lead but that is also true of any aluminum ingot mold. All in all the fit and finish is a bit better than the Lee and I feel the price is very fair for what you get. The Lee does have a half ingot feature that may help some but for me is a non-issue as I havent had a need for the feature. I have included a photo of both side by side for comparison of size and of ingots dropped. Bear in mind the Lee is almost pure lead so thats what causes it to have more shine to it. Hopefully this helps someone find what they need. Happy casting! ... show more

  • Great but..
It was fantastic! Until the wooden handle burnt where the mold and handle meet. It now doesn’t stay in. I just used heat resistant adhesive and “glued” the two together. It’s a shame but I don’t know how it would be prevented. Molten lead is hot!

  • Works good but they forgot something
Just got finished melting a bunch of lead for jigs and the mold worked great. The only problem is someone forgot send a handle with said mold. A wood dowel I had and a drill bit fixed it but for cereal?? The handle just a wee bit important

  • It works awesome! Will not melt if used properly.
The media could not be loaded. I just finished casting 70lbs of lead. This mold releases easily without any release agent. It cools the cast quickly, which is nice. Each ingot will weigh about 1 pound. It works great. 700°F is plenty hot to cast lead. Aluminum melts at over 1200°F. So if you heat your lead to excessively high temperatures, this aluminum mold will melt, which would probably be a good thing because if you melt this mold you probably shouldn't be casting lead to begin with. ... show more

  • Great for the price
Nice mould. I bought four of them so that while I am pouring one, the others are cooling. They get hot hot quickly. The first thing I did was squeeze some epoxy into the handles and then assemble. This will keep the mould's tang from wallering out the handle and causing it toeventually fall off. When ready to dump the lead, do NOT bang them. They will crack. Instead keep a wooden tapper thingie like the end of a broomstick and just lightly tap at it while it is inverted. My moulds released when inverted no issues except a few times I did have to tap. I fill my moulds above the four cavities and almost to the top of the mould. Then when the ingots drop, they remain attached together. Easier to handle and stack.. When ready to slip into smelter, I just grab and flex and they pop right apart. Each ingot is a tad more than one pound. I have made about 500 ingots and see that these will last me forever. ... show more

  • Use great care when installing the handle
Product was shipped and delivered in food time, but the tang seems a bit small and fragile for a 3lb mold... it broke off while I was trying to tap the handle on. I will have to improvise.
