I spray painted the metal legs and middle racks in an antique pewter gloss color. It really turned out great. Very nice and sturdy bookshelf. Great for what I need. We bought this for our child’s room. The rustic oak color is great. Assembly was straightforward and I managed to build it alone in about 1.5 hours. It is very sturdy (it’s kind of hard to believe it’s engineered rather than hardwood) and also very heavy, so it takes two people to carry it. We recently bought new furniture for the living room. We also wanted to get rid of a cheap old bookcase that was in our dining room. This solved that problem and, because of its design keeps our cats away from the open back of the new love seat. I'm surprised how sturdy it is and it was relatively easy to assemble with two people (one to install the hardware and the other to stabilize the long pieces so the hardware went in correctly). It is perfect for the area I am putting it ...liked it so much I got another one ! sturdy - wasn't crazy about the stickers sent to cover up unused holes (could be a bigger sticker so it doesn't sink into the hole) but other than that Iove it !
