  • Outstanding Value...but
Size: Queen (All-Season)
When it came time to finally replace a heavy-weight winter down duvet from a European manufacturer I originally purchased in 1990, I didn't want to spend the $1200+ and decided to take a chance on this duvet insert. If I didn't like it it any way - and I'm usually very picky about my bedding - it would going right back and I'd purchase something else. So far though, I'm pleased with this item. It arrived quickly direct from the vendor, vacuum sealed in plastic and extremely compressed. There was absolutely no discernible odor of any kind. But if you've had any experience with down, you'll know that down clusters sometimes have trouble regaining loft when highly compressed for long periods. It took me a good 48 hours to get the comforter to fully puff up, and that was with me hastening the process by letting it air, fluffing in the dryer, and hand working the down in each of the individual baffles to both distribute (un-ciump?) and re-loft each cell. Now I'm getting at least 5+ inches of loft throughout the duvet. Sizing for the queen size is spot-on at 90x90 inches. Holding the duvet up to a bright light, the baffle box construction and clusters of down in each cell are clearly visible. Even though the duvet does not have side gussets, the baffles around the edge of the comforter appear to hold slightly more down each than the baffles throughout the center of the duvet making them slightly puffier even without the side gussets. Otherwise the cells appear to be very evenly filled throughout the duvet. Only down clusters can be seen. A good sign: absolutely no feathers can be identified, nor can I feel any evidence of feather shafts/quills through the exterior fabric when I was working each cell to break up the compressed down. It seems to have a very high down/feather ratio. The cover is a very tightly woven, smooth, white cotton with even stitching and nice silver-y braid/cord sewn around the outside edge. There were no excess or loose threads anywhere on the comforter. I placed the comforter in a duvet cover to use for almost a week before removing it to add an additional duvet protector. Surprisingly there was absolutely no sign of any stray down or feathers working their way out of the comforter for that first week of general use. It is definitely heavier, denser but slightly less lofty than my old comforter. But seems to be quite a bit warmer than the previous designed for a Norther Europe climate. I was able to use the manufacturers label and trace the comforter back to the factory in China that produced it. They meet all of the relevant standards - oeko tex-100, RDS, certifications etc. - and they produce products for a number of different brands. I'm normally very hesitant to purchase something of this nature made in an unknown factory in China, but the quality and value of the item is certainly of very high standards. Lastly the "but" I want to point out about the item received: The item I ordered was a Hungarian Down, 750+ FP, 65 oz fill, 800 thread count Queen comforter. But the manufacturers label on the item received shows that it's a 750 FP, 60 oz fill, 1200 thread count Queen comforter. Even though the roughly 10% of down fill difference is not something I would call out, the description clearly matches a very similar product sold by Eqyptian Bedding at a slightly lower price. ... show more

  • Amazing comforter - just what I've been looking
Size: King
I had been shopping for 1 month or so for a comforter..Bloomingdales, Macy's, LL Bean, The Company Store, etc. I decided on this comforter/seller due to the great reviews. I wasn't sure which comforter to buy - queen or king, and either the 800TC, 1000TC or 1200TC. I bought the king size in 800TC, and it's perfect. I have a queen size S&F that's 13.5" thick mattress with a standard profile box spring (so, higher than the low profile). The comforter is placed so, the length of the comforter is across the width of my bed. This allows for the comforter to cover my bed down to the top of the bedframe on the side/width of the bed. There's enough coverage of the width part of the comforter to cover the length of my bed with enough overhang at the foot of the bed. As far as the comforter, itself, it is well constructed and is soft enough that it could be used alone/without a duvet. It does make a little crinkly sound, but that's to be expected due to it being brand new...it'll soften up over time. I decided to get the 800TC because I wanted the down to breathe which is important for regulating the temperature of the comforter. And, the cotton with the 800TC is woven tight enough to prevent feather leakage. I just bought the comforter so, I don't know about durability. I've already used it several nights and so, far the temperature of it is perfect. I keep the temperature in my house at 68F during the night and I'm warm enough without being too warm....and I tend to get warm during the night. As suggested in another review, I contacted the seller prior to ordering to ensure that I got the baffled comforter and that's what was provided. It was in a plastic sealed bag, new and unused. Note that the seller was very quick to respond and extremely helpful. FYI - read a review about down comforters during my search and discovered some very helpful hints. Hungarian Goose is the bed down as it regulates temperature the best and is more durable. When getting the comforter, fluff it a little bit to get the loft. In the summer, only fluff it once or twice to reduce loft, which causes the comforter to be cooler. In the winter, fluff it a lot for warmer comforter temperature. As far as duvet, stick to a cotton one b/c it allows the down to breathe, which is important for the down to do its job of regulating temperature. Polyester, cotton sateen or silk will trap the heat resulting in the down getting moist and it won't breathe..therefore, the temperature won't regulate and you'll probably get too hot. Wool breathes well so, no worries on that. ... show more

  • Very well made comforter
Size: King
This is a great comforter, I looked around and researched down comforters for quite a while and paid a lot of attention to customer reviews, I was not let down with this purchase. The king size fits our bed well with about a 10" hang down on each side, and our bed is big, actually two extended twin adjustable beds but together. The comforter fluffed up well over a couple of days, we shake and fluff it every day or so. It is light but very warm, we keep our heat at 60 degrees at night and always run a ceiling fan and we need nothing but a top sheet and this comforter to stay warm and comfortable. I have not had one loose feather yet and the baffling is well made, keeping the down well spread with no bunching. I am very happy with the purchase, my wife loves it and I would buy another one with no questions. ... show more

  • fluffy and feels like an oven when one snuggles up under it
Size: King
To start with: this comforter was worth the money I paid, so no regrets. However... Many years ago I visited that big-box Swedish furniture store and there, on a whim, I bought a king size down feather comforter which was on sale at the time (for about one Benjamin). To this day that is the gold standard in down comforters for me because it is light, fluffy and feels like an oven when one snuggles up under it. The one I bought on Amazon, and which I'm supposed to review, appears to be quality made and I certainly don't have major issues with it. Compared to my old comforter though this new ones feel a bit heavier, and even though it fluffs up after taking it out from its bag, it doesn't because near as fluffy as the old one. The linen cover and the stitching are of good quality so feather are flying all over the room when I shake the comforter, or fluff it. Zero odor, even straight out of its plastic shipping cover. ... show more
