It is shaped to still give you a waist, perfect if you have a bit of an hourglass figure, and it doesn't show sweat marks if you're working hard. For the cooler months, it's great for walks and runs. I would not wear anything under it - it's pretty thin and not baggy, so I thin layering under it would be uncomfortable.
