Description

Luigi’s invited to the towering Last Resort hotel, but when Mario and friends go missing, our green-clad hero will have to conquer his fears to save them. Slam, blow away, and vacuum up ghosts with the all-new Poltergust G-00, and join forces with Gooigi to overcome the puzzling contraptions and mischievous boss on each themed floor. And that’s just the Last Resort. Enter the ScareScraper for 8-player local wireless or online co-op gameplay. See if you can defeat all the ghosts, rescue all the toads, or clear other objectives before time runs out in the ScareScraper. And for more mini-game madness, compete on teams at the Scream Park. Whether you play with friends or wander the hotel alone, you’ll be sucked in by the atmospheric music and ghoulish decor of every cobwebby corner you explore. Why not take in the cinematic sights and sounds with a friend? In the main adventure, you and a friend can play together as Luigi and Gooigi in two-player co-op. Gooigi can walk on spikes, slip through tight spaces, and help Luigi overcome obstacles he can’t tackle alone. Never hurts to have a friend in this hotel; it may not be very spooky, but Luigi begs to differ. Nintendo Switch Online membership (sold separately) and Nintendo Account required for online play. • One of the Must-Have Switch Games
Platform: Nintendo Switch Edition: Standard
I wanted to get this game at release, but waited because I had such a large backlog of games. I still do, but finally decided to pick up Luigi's Mansion 3 after watching a Polygon video about the game's animation. I'm glad I did. The game is great! The single-player experience is fun, yet stimulating, and I highly recommend it. Unfortunately, I haven't had a good opportunity to test out the multiplayer modes outside of a few online matches with strangers, but I hope to do so soon. Next Level Games is the developer, and they did a superb job here, particularly with the animation. Every move Luigi makes feels grounded, with the animation really selling the physics, which in turn causes the player to buy into the experience more. You understand who Luigi is as a character just buy watching him open a door, turn his flashlight on and off, get startled by a ghost behind him, etc. The game looks incredible compared to other Switch games! As with Luigi's Mansion 2 on the 3DS (also developed by Next Level), the spooky atmosphere is somewhat lacking compared to the GameCube original, but the thematic floors more than make up for it, and the plethora of new mechanics added make it a much richer and deep experience on a gameplay level. The puzzles can be challenging, particular if you're doing a completionist playthrough where you try to get all six gems on each floor, along with capturing each floor's Boo. Really, my only complaint is that there really isn't any reason to collect money or find all the secrets, aside from personal pride. The reward for capturing all the Boos is that Luigi's flashlight shines a Boo face on walls, and getting all 102 gems only lets you buy a blinged-out Poltergust. That's it. And money only lets you buy extra lives, Boo trackers, and hints that show you the rough locations of gems on a floor. Why not make extra costumes something you can spend your money on? The player is constantly rewarded for finding secrets and defeating enemies with loads of dollars and coins, but you can't use them for anything! All in all, I highly recommend Luigi's Mansion 3. It's up there with Super Mario Odyssey, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild as great original Switch games. ... show more

  • Luigi is Back!
Platform: Nintendo Switch Edition: Standard
Luigi and cast are invited to stay at a luxury hotel free of cost, but it turns out the place is haunted. After some events I won't spoil, Luigi is once again tasked with vacuuming up ghosts and saving his friends. The first couple floors of the hotel are designed to look like a haunted hotel, but after a few, each floor becomes unique, with theme like a museum, pirate resort, movie studio, gladiators arena, and many more. Each floor is fun to explore, but unfortunately the cool ones are really small, and primarily used for a single boss fight. For the bigger floor plans, there are secret areas, hidden money, and goofy stuff to see. I enjoyed every floor except for the boiler room, which requires you to move around via rubber ducky in the water, and for some reason I could not turn Luigi left and right when I wanted, making it really frustrating. Some of the mechanics consist of using Gooigi, a plunger, and a dark light. Gooigi is a goo like replica of Luigi who can fall through vents, travel via pipe, and walk through gates. Gooigi can even fight and he must be used at times to save Luigi when he is caught up in bad situations. The plunger is used to pull things and break them, pretty straight forward. The Dark light lets you see hidden objects, make items in painting real, and weaken boos. The combat is fun, and very easy. You flash the ghosts with a flash light and then suck them up with the vacuum. Once you have a hold on the ghost you can slam them multiple times for bonus damage, and to knock down other ghosts. There is a small variety of enemy ghosts, but plenty of boss ghosts to play around with. Some ghosts where glasses and what not to cover their eyes from the flash, so you have to use the tools available to you to knock them off. This game is great and I highly suggest it. ... show more
