Easy to assemble and easy to install. We set up a livestock tank for deer and their babies on our property. Simple to run a hose to the Little Giant float valve. It worked right off. Simple concept: The water runs through a plastic water restrictor, like what you'd find in any shower head. It's just a plastic piece with a small hole in the middle of it. From the restrictor, it simply shoots down under the float in to the tank. Once the water level reaches high enough, a float that's much like what you'd find in the tank of your toilet, floats upwards and plugs the hole in the water restrictor which shuts off the flow of water to the tank. Simple. You'll want to make sure that your water pressure is adjusted downward at that faucet. I figure you can use a simple water pressure regulator like you'd use on the RV, and fit that on the end of the faucet. The hose screws right in to the threads on the top of the float valve. I had mine up and running in less than an hour and that's because I drilled an access hole through the shed where the water faucet was located. I also fitted the exposed length of hose with some left-over pipe insulation for winter use. ... show more

Why did you pick this product vs others?: I have had this installed for about a month. First, it functions as expected. I did have to make a special trip to try to find the right lubricant they recommend. However, after about a month the supplied bolts are completely rusted. Suggest changing those out for another type! ... show more

this water float valve has worked very well. i had to construct a way to mount this to an unconventional water container and it has worked very well. we don't use in the winter due to freezing, but the rest of the year it is great and give us one less thing to have to do around the farm -- check and take water to our flock throughout the day. note, depending on your water hardness you may have to clean this periodically to remove buildup. the worst thing about this is probably also a good thing. attaching a hose is not the easiest thing if it is mounted. if it is not mounted, you can easily screw on the end of a hose like anything else. but if it is mounted you will end up with a kinked hose if you don't spin the hose as you tighten to the valve. the reason is the attach point is fix, there is no rotating collar to tighten up the hose. BUT this is also a stronger connection, and likely helps keep the cost down a bit. my suggestion is to buy or contract a short hose that you can easily connect to the float, and then you can connect your hose from the water source as easily as you connect two hoses together. ... show more

This is the best water trough float valve I've purchased. The plastic ones don't last in the sun or a freeze. I've had another one of these Little Giant aluminum float valves on a second trough for years, and it's survived 7-degree freezes and 105-degree heat.
