    • Great trailer axle brakes
Size: 10 Inch x 2.25 Inch
Installed both a left and right side to replace OEM Lippert non self-adjusting brakes on my 20ft car hauler trailer. The original brakes only lasted about 7,500 miles - well the right side (magnet quit working), but I also needed to replace the left brake hub so I installed all new components so they hopefully wear at the same rate. Installation and adjustment were straight forward for the most part. Adjust until there is heavy drag then back off the adjuster until there is some audible noise and slight drag. The right side proved easier to back off the adjuster than the left side which took a screwdriver to hold the self-adjuster off the adjustment wheel so I could turn it. I made a roughly 15 mile drive to begin the burnish process and after about 10 applications I had to turn the brake controller gain down to keep the trailer brakes from locking up. At that point I applied another 4 - 5 slow downs using only the brake controller override, before driving a mile so to let the brakes and hubs cool before parking the trailer. When I parked they were still hot and you could definitely smell the materials seating together. I probably should have continued driving to cool them more, but I had other commitments and couldn't. Overall I am very pleased with the products and hope they last longer than the Lippert non-adjusting brakes they replaced. ... show more

Easy to install, work great. No need to preadjust. Just install make sure they are reasonably close to drum clearance. Use brakes @ 10-20 mph, 5 or more times & they adjusted themselves correctly.

Brake linings appear to be very good quality (unlike poor quality original equipment). Two issues: First - the star wheel adjuster to adjust brakes to drum cannot be accessed through either port on the backside of the backing plate. . .one must perform initial adjustment by removing the steel brake drum and then replacing until proper drag is established. The two ports are incorrectly positioned. Second - there is a light duty spring that is to push the magnet squarely against the inner surface of the brake drum. The spring was not installed correctly leaving the magnet not riding squarely towards the drum. The fix is easy. (NOTE: Photograph of the entire assembly is upside down.) ... show more

I bought 2 of these because first new stated 'like new' had missing parts and wasn't applicable to install. Should order 'brand new' and that was spot on. Self-adjusting feature seems to work as after half a year of use brakes are still in good shape

This is as close to plug and play as it gets. These are very high quality brake assemblies that are not that much more than just a brake shoe replacement. Make sure that the inside surface that the magnet makes contact with is in good shape and smooth, not grooved or worn otherwise you will be wasting your money. Also need to know how to properly adjust and then burnish the brakes after the installation. ... show more
